Howard Berringer, 77, of Nampa, passed away December 22, 2014 at his home.
Howard was born on June 16, 1937, in Clairton, PA, the son of Howard and Nina Berringer. After graduating high school in 1955, he spent 4 years in the USAF. In 1961, he joined the Pennsylvania State Police. In November 1963, he married Kay Sankey in Punxsutawney, PA. His State Police career took them to Indianapolis in 1972 to attend law school. After graduating law school in 1975 he served as legal counsel to the Pennsylvania State Police until he retired in 1978. In 1979, they went to Evanston, IL where he was assistant legal counsel for Northwestern Traffic Institute for two years. In 1981, they travelled to San Francisco where he was assistant executive director for a law enforcement educational organization (AELE). In 1984, they moved to Boise, ID where he became legal advisor for the Boise Police Department. In 1989, he joined the Boise City Attorney's Office as a prosecuting attorney until his retirement in 1998. He built his own home in Garden Valley, ID and lived there until 2002 when they moved to Nampa, ID. He and Kay travelled all over the U.S. RV-ing and visited many European countries where they also took several river cruises. He is survived by his wife Kay, son Kevin Berringer, daughter Kristi Berringer-Thagard, 2 granddaughters: Brittany & Brooke Berringer, 4 great grandchildren, a brother Lynn (Kathy) Berringer and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thanks to St. Luke's Hospice and Bright Star Home Care. Also, thanks to our friends for their prayers and floral arrangements. A private service will be held at a later date.
