Ila Maughan Obituary

Ila Mae Larsen Maughan Ila Mae Larsen Maughan, 85, died Sunday of natural causes. Ila was born May 16, 1923 at Hyrum, Utah, the last of ten children of Ernest Andrew Larsen and Anna Hansina Petra Albretson Larsen. Ila married Grant Leishman Maughan Oct. 30, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. The first years of their marriage were spent in several locations, together and separated, while Grant served in the US Army. Her first son, Mitchell, was born in 1945, three months after Grant had been sent to New Guinea. At the conclusion of WWII, Ila and Grant moved to Buhl, Idaho, where Grant taught and coached at the high school. Four more children were born over the next ten years. In 1960, Ila started working as a secretary for an insurance company. When the insurance company closed, Ila worked the remainder of her years in Buhl as a secretary for a law firm. In 1966, Ila and Grant, and their family moved to Boise, Idaho where Ila worked as a secretary for the State Department of Education and Grant worked as a counselor for Vocational Education. In 1985 Grant died. Ila continued working for the State Department of Education and retired in May of 1988 after 22 years with the department. She lived in the family home at 9450 Lyle St. until 2001, when a deterioration in her health necessitated a change. She lived with her son Kim until Kim's death in 2005. Subsequent deterioration in health necessitated nursing home care and eventually full time private caregivers. Ila is the last of the Larsen siblings to pass away. She is survived by four children, Mitchell (Ann) Maughan, DelRay (Marsha) Maughan, Brian Maughan, Bonnie (Randy) Grove; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah, Boise, Idaho. A viewing will also be held from 10-11a.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at the Hyrum 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 450 East 100 South, Hyrum, Utah followed by a brief service. Graveside services will then take place at the Hyrum City Cemetery. www.relyeafuneralchapel.com

I worked with Ila when I was a young man and she did everything possible to make my job easy. She treated like one of her own kids and oh how I loved to tease her. She wasn't fond of being teased. It is with a sad heart that I read about her passing but the joy and happiness she brought into my life will be forever remembered. My prayers are with your family and may you to treasure her memory the rest of your life. May God bless all of you.
