Jake Roach Obituary

Jake Patrick Roach, 43, of Boise, ID, passed away Oct. 23, 2010. He was born Nov. 24, 1966 in Costa Mesa, CA, the son of Richard and Sharon Roach. He spent his early childhood years riding his pony until his beloved Grandpa "bought a motorcycle for Grandma". That was life changing for Jake. With his Grandpa's support Jake went on to become a very accomplished moto-cross rider, gradually getting bigger and bigger bikes, and winning wherever he went. His Grandpa was there to fix and transport his bikes no matter the cost and Grandpa loved doing it with his Grandson. It wasn't too long after getting his first bike that he started working out for that extra edge to win. This also was a big life change for Jake. He started boxing and once again excelled in another sport and took a title in southern Utah. He went on to become a physical fitness buff and recently became a certified Personal Trainer. He loved teaching young boxers here in the Boise Basin. Jake carried a CDL license and was one of the first semi trucks to reach the Katrina victims with Red Cross supplies; and so proud to have been able to help others in need when other drivers were afraid to go. His religion was his corner-post to lean on and the church in turn rejoiced in his loving and caring nature. He was a ray of sunshine to all that crossed his path; there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for a friend or foe. Jake is survived by his father, Dick Roach; step-mother, Jane; mother, Sharon Hall; step-father, Jim Hall; sisters, Melanie Jurries and Darlene Boyes; nephews, Jonathan and Derek Flynn, Dakota and Brock Holmes; and niece, Courtnie Flynn. Jake was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Gale Woodward, and his brother, Clint Upchurch. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 at the LDS Chapel located at 2600 Hill Road. Friends may call to visit with the family from 1:00 - 1:50 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will follow the services at Dry Creek Cemetery where Jake can continue to look out over the Boise Basin and all those that need love and care. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel. Any tributes and condolences can be left at www.relyeafuneralchapel.com.

Jake as I find myself thinking of you tonight.. I am surprised not to see where I had written anything before? I think about you often, every time I go to town I see the park we did our Boxing and Kickboxing workouts at and I think of you. We had such fun making the movie together. Now that I embark on another one, you are sorely missed to help me again. I loved reading all the wonderful things people said about you. And all so true, I never meet anyone so full of life and always smiling. You were such a character and such fun to be around. It goes without saying that we were brothers and friends that cared for each other and shared so many events together. I will miss you until the day I die and can't wait to see you again in the Spirit World. I know You and Red Hawk are planning something big from the other side. I sent your mother a copy of the movie, I know you would have wanted me to do that. I really miss you my friend and sidekick. Life is just not the same without you here. Thanks for being my friend and always being there. They threw the book & mold away when they made you. Until we meet again... keep the chin down and your hands up. Your Friend In This Life and The Next. Blackhawk Walters

First and foremost, to Jake's Mom and family, I am so sorry. It has taken me a long time to post here because I am still trying to accept this as being real. Jake was my friend. From the day we graduated high school, no person was as significant and cherished in my life as Jake. My greatest memories from my youth were shared with Jake, and it continued as we grew into men. My parents loved Jake as much as anybody, because they also knew who he really was; a gentle, funny, giving, insecure grown up kid who wanted to do nothing but make the people around him smile. And he always did. After years and thousands of miles apart, when I called him to stand next to me as I married, Jake (and Peggy) was there. On one of the most important days of my life, it could only have been complete with Jake. And he was there, as he always was when I needed him.

Jake was an unconditional friend. He had a gift of making everyone around him feel alive. I know it sounds cliché, but if there ever was a man who was “larger than life”, it was Jake.

Sharon, thank you so much for our talk. Your strength is incredible and you and your family will always be in my prayers. I loved Jake as a brother. And I am blessed and thankful to have him as one of my greatest friends. Rest easy Jake. Until we all see you again….....

Jake was one of my best friends. I loved Jake like he was my brother. We met in St George, Utah back in 2001 and became close friends. After the first time I met Jake, we talked for 8 hours straight. Ha Ha I know a lot of people are laughing at the (8-Hours) Jake loved to talk! We were both from California, and we both missed a lot of friends and family from California. We found a lot of humor in the Utah life style as we did in every single subject we ever talked about. We would laugh so hard sometimes we could not breath...as I'm writing this I'm getting choked up but I also have a smile on my face... I miss Jake.
Yes, Jake would wear a marathon runner out, but you always loved him for the person he was inside. I honestly can say Jake had the biggest heart of any person I have ever met - he would give you his last penny if you needed it. Jake's loss of his brother and Grandfather weighed very heavy on his heart. He talked of the loss of these two very important people in his life more than any other events in his short life. Jake loved his faith and cherished the calm it brought to him. I feel Jake is in heaven with his brother and Grandfather looking down on all of us thinking WOW they really loved me look how many people loved me!
Jake touched our life's in a great positive way and has left all five of my children and my wife and I nothing but happy memories.
God Speed my brother, I love you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew and loved Jake. His passing is a terrible tragedy and I am certain a huge loss for his family. I went to high school with Jake and while we were not super close during those years, I always had an admiration and respect for Jake. He seemed to be always smiling and laughing and well he was pretty tough kid back in those days. I have a few special memories of our post graduation trip to Hawaii. Jake was generous and actually helped to feed and support me on that trip because I had spent all of my money on last minute airfare. I know he will live in all of our memories from now on.
