James Quinn Obituary

Dr. James M. Quinn
1934 - 2018
Dr. James M. Quinn passed away with his family by his side on May 31, 2018 at a hospital in Boise, Idaho, following an accident that occurred while riding one of his beloved horses.
He was born into a military family at Fort Devens, Massachusetts in 1934 to Colonel Michael A. Quinn and Francis P. Quinn (nee Hodes). He spent parts of his childhood in Columbus, Ohio, the Philippine Islands, and Kansas City, Missouri.
He was commissioned Second Lieutenant of Artillery upon graduation from Seattle University but soon determined that the Army was not his vocation and returned to Kansas City to attend medical school. He graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 1968.
Dr. Quinn was the sixth Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine to be licensed in the state of Idaho. He practiced medicine, his true calling, from the day he graduated medical school until his death in 2018, a career that spanned 50 years.
Dr. Quinn was an active participant in the arts in Boise. He was a board member of the Boise Philharmonic and was a devotee of Opera Idaho. He was also an active outdoorsman, enjoying skiing, backpacking, fishing, and especially horseback riding.
Dr. Quinn is survived by his two children, Dana Fullmer and Terry Quinn, and grandchildren, Braden Fullmer, Connor Quinn, and Eilonwy Quinn.
Services will be held at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 West Bannock St., Boise, Idaho on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 4:00 pm.
If so moved, please send donations in lieu of flowers to the ALS research organization Team Gleason, www.teamgleason.org.

The Quinn family was Military Royalty when I first met them at Fort Leavenworth at age 13. At age 20 Jim appeared in my life again in Kansas City, I was a student nurse and he came walking down the hospital hall. At age 75 our connection was due to my doing research for a talk my sister and I were giving to the Fort Leavenworth Historical Society about growing up at Fort Leavenworth. This began frequent phone conversations about our shared history, his ability to make a funny story about any daily event, just checking in. Shall miss all that, his laugh, his love of life. There are no words to describe my sorrow or my deepest condolences to his family and friends. Un beso y un abrazo, Gigi

Dr. James Quinn, was my Doctor in the early ninties, while I was in Bosie. He was an exceptional awesome Doctor. I remember while working at Albertsons putting myself through School. Dr. Quinn came in and purchased steaks for an elderly lady that needed extra care. He was going to her home and prepare them for her dinner. I will always remember the extra special service he gave by going out of his way to care for the patients. With his the most amazing smile He will be greatly missed.
May He rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with he family, friends and patience. GOD BLESS you all.

I knew of James through my Aunt Pat Krueger (née Quinn). We also have and enjoyed Colonel Quinn's book Love Letters to Mike. May the Lord bless and Keep James and May God foever hold James in the palm of His hand.

Uncle Jim will be missed by all. When I was very, very young, he taught me to fish. The one thing I never seemed to learn about the sport was the patience required. He always seemed to have enough for everyone. I remember that time with him vividly. Uncle Jim, Rest In Peace. We love you. Thank you, and thank God for sharing you with us.
