Joel Lamm

November 17, 1986 - July 16, 2025

Hayden, Idaho - Joel Philip Lamm passed away in his sleep in Hayden, Idaho, on July 16, 2025, at the age of 38. Joel was born on November 17, 1986, in Ontario, Oregon, to adoring parents, Douglas Philip Lamm and Karen Rae Lamm (Lobsinger). He grew up in Payette, Idaho as an only child but surrounded by a community of brothers and sisters in his cousins (Laura, David, Alyssa, Kate, Casey and Logan) the neighborhood, at school, and at church.

Even as a child, relationships were of primary importance to Joel, spending time with family and friends, playing, getting into mischief, riding bikes, fishing, hunting, trapping gophers, etc. were high on his list of activities. He purchased his own English Pointer hunting dog when he was 10 and then, along with some help from his parents, raised a litter of 10 puppies. He loved seeing all 10 dogs on point or honoring others when he had a pheasant wing hanging from a fishing rod. He loved fishing for bass in the local rivers with his friends and hunting at the family farm near Kamiah, Idaho.

He particularly loved his summer fishing and touring trips to North Idaho, Montana or Wyoming with Poppy and Grandma Lamm and visits with Grandpa and Grandma Lobsinger in Colorado or Idaho. A favorite spot in Colorado was Grandpa's shop where the 40's big band music was always playing, broadening his love of all music.

Joel had a strong work ethic. As a grade schooler, he was in charge of dumping the trash from all offices at Dad's office. In junior high, he began a lawn mowing business. Early on, he was driven around from job to job by mom. Once he got his own driver's license, off he would go with his old ford truck and trailer full of mowers and trimmers, mowing lawns for his customers till he was out of high school. He also helped in the family orchard, pruning, thinning, painting trunks, picking and selling peaches. His least favorite chore was replacing broken irrigation risers that dad mowed off or helping dad on pump repairs. Those of you who helped your dad on repair projects understand all too well.

Joel excelled in football and loved playing linebacker on the real field or any position on his Madden games. He created many friendships through his time in football.

Joel attended Payette High School where he was known for his antics and one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He was senior class president, the class clown, and co-captain of the football team. Joel graduated from Payette High School in 2005 and was looking forward to reuniting with his classmates for their 20th reunion in August. He continued his education at Treasure Valley Community College and Boise State University completing his degree in accounting in 2010. It was during this time that Joel took on the frightening task of challenging all he believed about Christ. While he has a long Christian family heritage, it was time to decide what he believed, period. He said he didn't have the faith to be an atheist but he was an agnostic for a period of time. He then read many books on various religions, debated with friends of all faiths, and studied and rebuilt his faith so that it was his own, not something he was leaning into from his parents or grandparents, his own! This struggle to define his own path led him to have a heart for others struggling in their own faith journey. He knew he was far from perfect and that helped him in his understanding of others who needed to know Jesus as their Savior.

Joel relocated to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in 2011. There he met his wife and love of his life, Nicole (Wilfong). Joel and Nicole were married in Coeur d'Alene on October 12, 2013. They added two amazing children, Thea and Lawson, to their family and built a beautiful life together. Joel began working as a financial controller for CAL Cars in 2018 where he developed friendships and impacted many lives.

Joel was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family on their boat on Lake Pend Oreille. Joel was a big college football fan. He cheered on his alma mater, Boise State or his other favorite team, Notre Dame, at every opportunity. Joel and his family attended One Place Church where he happily served and grew his relationship with Jesus. Joel was an unmatched husband, son, friend, and coworker but his favorite role was being a dad. You could always find him playing games, having a wrestling match, throwing a ball, or just snuggling with his precious children. They continue to be the light of his life.

Joel is survived by his wife, Nicole Lamm; children, Thea Faith and Lawson Philip Lamm; parents, Doug and Karen Lamm; grandmother, Georgia Lamm; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Donna Lobsinger and Phil Lamm.

While we are shrouded in deep sadness and questions regarding why Joel was taken from us so soon, we are confident that we will be united with him one day with our Father in heaven.
