John L'Abbe Obituary

John L'Abbe
October 12, 1921 - December 21, 2020
Boise, Idaho - John was born in Boise, ID October 12, 1921 to Medric and Margaret L'Abbe. He grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940.
He served 3 years in the Marine Corps with distinction, having fought in Guadalcanal and in Tarawa Island in 1943, having received the Purple Heart.
In the spring of 1945 Jeannette answered John's phone call, and the rest is history. They dated for 3 years before getting married on May 16, 1948. They lived in Jeannette's hometown of Woonsocket, RI having two sons Steve and Larry. In 1954 the family moved to Boise, ID where they have lived ever since.
John was employed at the MHAFB from 1955 to 1967. He retired from the V.A. after 13 years in 1980, as a steam fitter plumber.
John volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul's where he enjoyed over 20 years of service, having made a multitude of friends.
A big fan of softball, he was often seen at Ann Morrison Park rooting on his sons and other familiar local players.
Papa passed away peacefully upon a Christmas Star just the way he wanted, in his home with his family surrounding him and his granddaughter Deon holding his hand to the tune "She Loves You".
John is survived by his wife Jeannette of 72 years, sons Steve and Larry, granddaughters Deon, Danielle, and Roni, grandsons Bryan and Justin, and great granddaughter Ella. With a special acknowledgment to "cousin" Matt, a devoted family member, whose considerable effort made our family's journey much easier.
Services will be held at St. Mary's on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 1:00 pm with a Rosary at 12:30 and a viewing at 12:00.
