While I never met or knew John personally, I consider him a friend. I have read many of his adventures and literally followed his trail on more than one of my adventures in the back country of Idaho. I rarely head out on a grueling adventure without first consulting splattski.com, idahoalpinezone.com or other places on the web where he would invariably turn up to point me in the right direction. Thank you John.

Our hearts are broken that John was not able to stay with us on earth longer to enjoy and continue his contribution to its betterment for others. We wish we had been able to spend more time with him, but our last visit with him was so enjoyable and will be remembered forever.

I'm am so sorry for your loss. I met John back in the aughts when he helped me with bike fitting. I felt like I was in the hands of an expert who cared about his work. My condolences to all of John's family and friends.

John was an awesome person and I appreciated the opportunity to go hiking and fishing with John in McCall. He had a wonderful ability to teach and mentor, wether it was hiking or riding a mountain bike, and I appreciated this very much as a flat lander from an urban environment. John was legendary figure and his memory will live on forever for those that knew or got to hangout with him. RIP John
