John Spratt Obituary

John Fredrick Spratt, Jr.
1981 - 2015
John Fredrick Spratt Jr., 34, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 after an 8 month battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and children.
John was born in Weiser, ID to John and Janet Spratt, much to the joy of his two older sisters, Jolene and Jackie. They spent many summers camping and fishing with cousins and grandparents. He developed a love of baseball at a young age and played through his senior year at Borah High School. After his graduation in 1999, he traveled north to obtain his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho. While there, he became a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity (Love and Respect).
In Aug. 2001, he married the love of his life, TerrieBeth Sturges, in Boise, ID. They were blessed with their son, John (Trip) Fredrick Spratt III in Nov. 2002, who inherited his father's love of math and baseball, as well as his calm, quiet, determined personality. After graduating from U of I in 2003, he decided to further his education by obtaining his Master's degree at Boise State University. While at BSU, he started his career at Micron Technology, which he loved and continued until his passing. In March of 2005, John and TerrieBeth were blessed with their daughter, Tatem Rae Spratt, who inherited his playful manner, ability to turn any room into a party, and love of baseball.
Once Trip turned 5, John spent much of his time coaching Trip's baseball teams. John loved sharing his passion and knowledge of the game with every child he coached over the years. He also had a passion for hunting that he shared with his family. John loved to travel, and spent many summers on road trips with his family to visit Major League Baseball stadiums. Their biggest travel adventure was this past year, when John took an opportunity with Micron to relocate to Tokyo, Japan. This presented them with the opportunity to explore Japan and travel to China, New Zealand and Australia.
John is survived by his wife, TerrieBeth; son, Trip; and daughter, Tatem; parents, John and Janet Spratt; grandmother, Esther Nelson; sister, Jolene Taaffe; her husband, Bob and their children, Scarlett and Robert; sister, Jackie Throngard and her husband, Justin; father and mother-in-law, Tim and Terrie Sturges; sister-in-law, Tabitha Gans, her husband David and their children, Madeleine and TBD; brother-in-law, TJ Sturges, his wife Hollie and their children Ethan, Caleb, Austin, Gavin and Isabella; and closest friend, Tim Champ, his wife Mandi and their son Elias.
John is preceded in death by his uncle, Clint Nelson (1992); grandfather, Ruben Karnes (2000); grandfather, Thomas Nelson (2005); and grandmother Annette Karnes (2013).
A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the LDS Chapel located at 3200 Cassia St., Boise. Family will greet friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to Saint Alphonsus Cancer Care Center (Boise, Idaho), East Boise Youth Baseball and Softball, or the family's Go Fund Me account (www.gofundme.com/sprattfamily).
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the quality staff at Saint Alphonsus. A special thanks to those who cared for John and his family during his final days: Dr. Hodson, Dr. Schultheiss and compassionate nurses Keri, Jan, Kara, and Jesse.
You are our always.

Dear Spratt Family. Although I do not know your son, I believe my sons and I know John Sr. If not I apologize for the intrusion. Let me explain. Over 40 years ago my sons Bruce and Brian were swimming for the Weiser Swim Team and met a John Spratt who was older than my sons, but we had a good time that summer, swimming and trying to figure out how and if we might be related! Sharing the same last name, your loss is felt in a very special way. May God bless you all with His comfort and peace.

Dear Spratt Family,
My heart goes out to you and your entire family. Growing up you never forget your first friends. I was lucky enough to be next door neighbors with John and his sisters and I'm proud to call John, Jackie and Jolene my friends . They were amazing people and even better neighbors.
Families are forever.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
