Jon Barton Obituary

Jon Randal Barton died peacefully surrounded by his family following an illness at Mountain View Nursing Home on March 8, 2007. Jon was born and raised in Pocatello, ID. He served in the US Navy as a Med.-Tech. in California from August 1954 to August 1958 when he received an Honorable Discharge. He then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles, Calif. On Feb. 14, 1965 Jon married H. Elise Smith in Hollywood, Calif. He was transferred by the railroad to Portland, Ore., where he had two daughters, Nanette and Brenda. They returned to Salt Lake City where he attended the University of Utah, and received a bachelor of arts degree in business. He and his family moved to Ogden, in 1978 where he worked for Weber County Economic Development Corporation of Ogden, bringing in major businesses to the area. Jon and Elise were later divorced but remained life-long friends. Shortly after he suffered a debilitating stroke. Jon never lost his love for his children, his love of life or his sense of humor. He loved the great outdoors. Camping fishing, traveling and writing were some of his great pleasures in life. He was an avid skier, an accomplished musician on the violin. Jon is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ellen Davis Barton; his father, Edward T. Barton; and brother, Edward Barton. Surviving are his daughters, Brenda (Doug) Koenig of Plain City, Utah and Nanette (Bryon) Steed of Riverdale, Utah; his sister, Elizabeth Kopper of Sandy, Utah; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Amber, Kolbey, Bowen, McKenzie, Diamond and Adam; and three great-grandchildren, Tya, Braycen and Damien. The family would like to thank Ogden Regional Medical Center, Mountain View Nursing Home and Hearts for Hospice for all their loving care and support. We will cherish our memories and carry you in our hearts. God Bless. A family and friend gathering will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Aaron´s Mortuary & Crematory, 1600 Washington Blvd. Private services will be held at Mt. Olivet´s Cemetery, Salt Lake City, UT. at a later date. Condolences may be extended to the family at [email protected] .
