Karmen Stuart Obituary

Karmen Kay Stuart Karmen Kay Stuart, 45, was born on July 2, 1963, in Bakersfield, Calif. to Reverend Harold and Luanna Stickney. On Oct. 30, 2008, after a 22 month battle with pancreatic cancer, she received ultimate healing and went home to be with Jesus. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at the Eagle Nazarene Church, 1001 W. State St., Eagle. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian. As a young girl, Karmen, along with her two brothers, Scott and Tim, were raised in California and Washington, before they moved to Moscow, Idaho as her dad pastored in the Nazarene Church. As a junior in high school, Karmen relocated with her family to Porterville, Calif., where she graduated from Monachee High School. Karmen loved to run and play basketball and she was able to continue in those pursuits at Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego, Calif. While in college, Karmen was a member on the cross country, basketball, and track teams. She graduated college and continued on to earn her Master's Degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Hesperia, Calif. in 1986. Karmen met her husband, Scott Stuart, while visiting Meridian, Idaho in May 1991 on a blind date. In July of that year, Karmen moved to Meridian to continue their relationship where she began her teaching career with the Meridian School District. Scott and Karmen were married on Dec. 20, 1991. They began their family when Payton was born on Oct. 18, 1997. Their second son, Blaine, was born on May 19, 1999. Then they were blessed by the birth of Kendall Kay on Nov. 28, 2000 and their family was complete. Karmen's interests included any activity with her family, such as camping, swimming, skiing and bike riding. She also continued running throughout her life and one of her enjoyable moments was completing the Boston Marathon in April of 2006, seven months prior to her cancer diagnosis. Karmen loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, soul and strength. She was disciplined in her faith and lived it out daily. Karmen overflowed with happiness and laughter. She shared her joy so easily with everyone around her. Karmen was filled with care for others and always wanted people to know how much she loved them. During Karmen's courageous battle with cancer, her desire was to be used for God's purpose. During that hard time, she continued to praise God for the blessings of family and friends and was thankful for a deeper intimacy with God and those around her. Karmen was preceded in death by her father Hal Stickney. She is survived by her husband, Scott and their three children, mother Lu Stickney, brother Scott Stickney and wife Rhonda, brother Tim Stickney and wife Annette, father and mother-in-law Charles and Kay Stuart, brother-in-law Neal Stuart and wife Teresa, sister-in-law Sandy and husband Randy Davison, sister-in-law Linda and husband Roger Cada, brother-in-law Travis Stuart and many nieces and nephews and, as the kids describe, their crazy and fun labradoodle Hope. Scott would like to thank Dr. Karl Schultheiss, the entire staff at the Cancer Care Center, and fifth floor oncology at St. Alphonsus for their loving care. Scott has also requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a memorial fund at Capital Educators Credit Union on behalf of the children.

I admired Mrs. Stuart so much. She was an inspiration to all of her students and she will truly be missed. I learned so much from her because she loved teaching. Her passion for learning was contagious. I really developed a passion for literature in her class and will always remember the impact she had on my life.

I only wish I could of had Mrs. Stuart as a teacher for more than just one year. It was not enough. She had such an amazing impact on my life. Mrs. Stuart is one of the main reasons that I am now studying to be a teacher. I know that she loved her family, she always had a great story from the weekend to share with our class. I will miss her a lot and hope the best for her family. I know that she will be looking down on all of us with the great smile she always wore.

Thank you Mrs. Stuart for everything

Twenty-Eight years was not enough time to share as best friends!!! Karmen helped mold me into the person I am. Her life was a praise song to God! Determination, working hard towards a goal, and making sure each day had purpose and fun were traits she carried with her all of her life! Sharing faith, family, fitness and fun are all treasured gifts I will hold close! Lu, Scott, Payton, Blaine, Kendall, and crazy Hope, I love you so much! We will always remember how much Karmen LOVED LIFE, others, and especially her precious family! I loved how people at her service said I reminded them of her! What a compliment! Team Stuart is as strong as ever and will continue to impact others along life's way! "Don't count the days. Make the days count!"

There are few people I have met that are as wonderful and amazing as Mrs. Stuart. She was my seventh grade reading teacher in 2006, and I will never forget the kindness and love she had for her students. May God be with her family in grieving, my prayers are with you.

Wow ! What a great way to leave a tribute to our great friend, Karmen. I only have the one regret...that she did not get to read all of these prior to her journey that took her to a most just reward....being with her Dad and her Heavenly Father. As the father of Deonna, Karmen's great friend, I must say that it was like having another daughter and we loved her so much. I always remember my first "sighting" of her....iin the Monache High School gym. I walked in and saw this girl shooting baskets at one end by herself. I saw her perfect form shooting and I told my daughter later that there was a girl I did not know, but that she was going to be a very good player for you to play with because she could shoot and had outstanding athletic moves. It turned out that was a perfect assessment and those two girls helped that school produce some of the best records in its history. I loved watching the two girls battle against each other well into the night many times in our backyard, where there was a lighted court. Mainly, I just thrilled at seeing two young, Christian ladies relate to each other in such positive ways and projecting their beliefs through there play on their teams and activities at school. Karmen left a legacy for her children that is the model for what a wonderful wife and mother is supposed to be in the eyes of the Lord. I thank God for letting us have her for as long as He did.....now, he can enjoy her in his own house.

Scott, Payton, Blaine, Kindall, Lu, and Family,

I am so saddened by the loss of Karmen, and my prayers are with all of you. When I remember Karmen, I think of warm, embracing, family, energized, affirming, caring, loving, optimistic, fun, athlete, fighter, and lover of life and God. Karmen 'lived' all of the days of her life fully engaged and awake. I know that you must all feel so blessed to have called her Wife, Mom, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin. Karmen.... we all miss you and know that your Spirit lives.

In Memory of Karmen,

Forever in my mind will be watching Karmen play for the PLNC women's basketball team. You see, Karmen was the most competitive, yet compassionate athlete I have ever been around. Karmen was the epitome of a Christian Student Athlete. She never was outhustled or outplayed. She always played with heart and sportsmanship. It was 'mind boggling', because she would always ride the stationary bike for 45 minutes directly after each game (as if the game wasn't enough). You could always count on Karmen carrying her smile and keeping her 'head up' each and every day. Truly a woman of GOD. She will be missed...

Norma and I have loved Karmen from the first moment that we met her, after writing letters to her before her family moved to Porterville. She was a student when we were teachers in the PortNaz S.S. We followed her career through Monache H.S., cheering her on through academics and athletics. Our hearfelt thoughts go out to Lou, and her family, and also to Scott and the children............

Dear Scott and Family,

May God send his angels to comfort you in this time of great loss. May these words bring healing to you.

A loved one is a treasure of the heart and to lose a loved one is like losing a piece of yourself. But the love that this person brought you...did not leave, for the essence of the soul lingers.
It cannot escape your heart, for it has been there forever. Cling to the memories and let them find their way to heal you. The love and laughter, the joy in the togetherness you shared...will make you strong. You'll come to realize that your time together, no matter how long, was meant to be,
and that you were blessed to have such a precious gift of love in your life. Keep your heart beating with the loving memories and trust in your faith to guide you through this time.

Sometimes tears blur our vision
So that a bend in the road
May actually appear
Like the end of the road.

But perfect vision returns
As we turn our face toward Christ.
Then our faith, hope and love
Help turn us back toward life.

Dear Scott and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Karmen's passing. We will continue to be in prayer for all of you during this difficult time.

Dear Stuart & Stickney Families,

I was so sorry to hear of Karmen's battle with cancer and recent passing. Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Karmen and being around her. I met Karmen at PLNU during the Freshman Orientation weekend prior to school starting. (Our parents had been roommates/travel group mates/friends at NNU.) I remember Karmen as warm, friendly, funny, one who loved life, and who loved God with all of her heart, soul, mind, and strength. I remember a woman of excellence. I remember one who you could always count on for a smile and a word of encouragement. Even though I have not seen Karmen in many years, knowing that she is gone makes me feel like our Christian family has lost one of the outstanding women of our day. Stuarts and Stickneys - May God bless you deeply and profoundly and carry you through until you see her again. Love, Rhonda

My Dear Scott, Payton, Blaine and Kindall,There are no words that will express the feelings of loss I feel in your wife, mother going "home". I have been praying for Karmen's healing since Luanna told me about her sickness. Her battle is over, but her "race" has just begun in her new body!! I had the priveledge of knowing Karmen while she was here in Porterville. I watch her grow up into a beautiful young lady. I don't have to tell of the spirit she had to share with others. I was touch by her in many ways. Your lost is great. But I know that, "Earth holds no Sorrow that Heaven can not Heal." My
prayer's are with you and all the family. Love,

Karmen was truly couragous...I didn't know her like I would have liked...just in passing as we took the kids to school or picked them up...she always had a beautiful smile on her face which made her warm and friendly to approach. My family and I would pass her as she walked her dog and we rode bikes and always stop and say hi how are you? God bless your family for her love that so openly showed.
