Kathy Moe Obituary

Kathy Lynn Gray Moe
September 26, 1954 - January 23, 2015
Kathy Moe was born in Dayton, Ohio, on September 26, 1954, to Clara and Jesse Gray, who now live in Wasilla, Alaska.
When Kathy was thirteen, she moved with her parents and her brother Larry to Alaska, where her father was a U. S. civil service employee at Elmendorf Air Force Base and her mother worked at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. A 1972 graduate of West Anchorage High School, Kathy enjoyed sports and was a member of the Moosettes, a women's slow-pitch baseball team.
She married Greg Moe on 7-7-77 in Anchorage, where they made their home for eleven years. They had two children, Colby and Kelsy. Kathy owned and operated the Bridal Cache for ten years, helping many nervous brides plan their big days.
In 1989, Kathy and Greg left Alaska and, after several years in Edmonds, Washington, settled permanently in Boise, Idaho. There Kathy met Karen Hay, a teacher at Summerwind Elementary School, who introduced Kathy to the sport of jump rope. Kathy found a passion there which took her on a journey of team management in national and international jump rope. She was a mother to hundreds of young people, encouraging and supporting them in this sport. Kathy served on the National Jump Rope Board of Directors, traveling with Boise's Summerwind Skippers to Australia, Belgium, England, and Korea. She watched avidly as the Skippers rose to the semi-finals of "America's Got Talent" in 2011.
Kathy and Greg loved people and adventures. They especially enjoyed their condominium on Maui and pu-pus at sunset. They loved Boise and liked to show people around their state. They made Christmas presents out of gourds they'd grown and wood from old fences. Always busy and always having fun, they sought out whatever was new and interesting.
When she was not with Greg, Kathy enjoyed spending time with Women of the Wilderness, the Sun Valley Campers, the Travelling Sisters, the Compassion Action Team , and the Bunko Girls. She could make an exceptional latte and loved serving it at the coffee bar at Vineyard Fellowship. There was nothing she couldn't do when she put her mind to it. She didn't put things off until tomorrow.
Kathy had a special place in her heart for Alabama and her many family members who live there, their wonderful reunions, and especially the support she received during her illness from family and friends.
In the months before she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, without knowing how the year would end, Kathy had the good fortune to visit friends and family across the United States, including relatives in Alabama and Alaska and friends in Yosemite National Park and Sun Valley, Idaho, and she attended the national jump rope competition in Long Beach, California.
The family wants to thank the fourth floor nurses at St Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute of St. Luke's Boise Medical Center and their friend Megan Pollock, who was also Kathy's hospice nurse.
After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on October 11, 2014, Kathy fought the disease bravely, with encouragement from family and friends. She died peacefully at home, without pain, surrounded by her family.
Kathy leaves her husband Greg, their son Colby (and Emily Hammond), and their daughter Kelsy (and Andrew) Porter; the real apple of her eye, two-year-old granddaughter Lottie Scout Porter; her parents Jesse and Clara Gray of Wasilla, Alaska; and her brother Larry Gray of¬¬¬¬ Florence, Alabama, and many other family members. Kathy's journey can be found at the Caring Bridge website, www.caringbridge.org and search for Kathy Moe.
A celebration of life will be held at Vineyard Fellowship in Boise on Saturday, February 7, at 2.00 p.m. The family asks that you wear blue, Kathy's favorite color, and, in lieu of flowers, that those wishing to remember her give to the Kathy Moe Scholarship Fund for Summerwind Skippers. Tax-deductible checks to support young jumpers, made payable to the Summerwind Skippers, may be mailed to Karen Hay, P.O. Box 1413, McCall, ID 83638.

We wish to extend our condolences to family and friends. Only met Kathy once and that was at Mom Moe's 90th birthday party in Anchorage. Her presence in a room made the whole place light up with smiles. She will be missed and though her family we feel as is we did indeed know Kathy. Bless you.
