Landon Smyser Obituary

Landon Smyser
April 10, 1991 - January 22, 2023
Parma, Idaho - Landon Samuel Smyser was born on April 10, 1991, in Canyon County to Melinda and Skip Smyser. He was a beautiful, 9 lb, blue eyed baby boy, who loved his siblings-Lincoln, Logan, and Lauren. He was raised in Parma, Idaho where he enjoyed playing sports, singing, and hunting "in God's country." In elementary school, Landon's love for reading began with Harry Potter. He'd spend hours reading in bed with his flashlight. As a youngster, Landon attended Sunday School, God's Gang, and Church Camp. He also participated in numerous Christmas plays at Sterry Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was the star of the show in the early 2000s when he sang "Christmas Shoes" as part of the Christmas program. In high school, he was an outstanding athlete and played varsity basketball, tennis, and golf. As a student, Lando loved to read historical books, novels, and sing in the Parma choir. On numerous singer's trips, he entertained his classmates with his beautiful singing and jokes. In his free time, he loved to listen to music, sermons, and podcasts. In high school, Landon embarked on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. During his trip, he provided the children with basketball balls for his camp. Upon graduation from Parma High School, Landon attended the University of Idaho majoring in History and Business. He was a proud member of the Vandal Family. While at the University, he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity where he formed lasting friendships with his brothers. Landon left Moscow and moved to Napa Valley to live with his big sister, Logan. He worked in the hospitality industry for several wineries. This is where Lando's love of cooking began. Since then, his passion for cooking has flourished and he became in demand at all family gatherings where he often prepared scallops, pasta, bone marrow, and incredibly seasoned meat dishes. Landon returned to Idaho and worked at the family restaurant-Capitol Cellars-in downtown Boise. From there, Landon worked as a sales specialist. For the last year and a half, Landon was employed by Prevalent, a risk management company. This position allowed him to interact with people from all over the world. He thrived on these opportunities to learn more about people and places. Like all of the Smyser's, Landon was actively involved in politics. He enthusiastically celebrated election nights, served as a precinct committeeman, and worked on numerous campaigns. Landon enjoyed the company of his many friends who he loved dearly. Whether it was movies, watching sports, golfing, or just enjoying each other's company, Landon was always entertaining his friends. On January 22, 2023, Landon Samuel Smyser went to be with the Lord, and he will be put to rest in Roswell, Idaho. His love of the Lord has given his family great comfort knowing that he has gone to his heavenly home. Landon will be deeply missed but we know we will see him again. Landon is survived by his parents, Melinda Sloviaczek Smyser and Skip Smyser of Roswell. His siblings Lincoln W. Smyser and his children Harper and Hudson Smyser, Logan Smyser-Griffin and her husband, Joe, Lauren Ballenger, and her husband, Matt, all of Boise. Landon is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, who loved him dearly. Landon was preceded in death by his grandparents Millie Smyser, Sam Smyser, Bill and Sandra Sloviaczek, his uncle Mike Sloviaczek, and his aunt Taunja Sloviaczek. Services will be held with a viewing on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Dakan Funeral Home in Caldwell. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11 AM at Sterry Memorial Presbyterian Church in Roswell, Idaho. A lunch for all of those in attendance will be served immediately following the service. In honor of Landon, memorial gifts may be made to the Sterry Memorial Presbyterian Church Stain Glass Fund, P.O. Box 655, Parma, ID 83660.
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His Face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26

Hard to believe it´s been two years since the death of our dear son Landon Samuel Smyser! I just want to give him a big hug on this Valentine s Day! Every day is hard but I know he is the greeter angel in heaven. Losing children is pretty tough. I learned what tears really are these past two year. Really big ones!
Thanks for all the loving thoughts, prayers and kindness these past two years!
Praying the lord send peace soon!
Today we bought a medallion at the cemetery place that we will put on his tombstone so people can see through their phone the " Joy" he brought to so many!

Words cannot express Nancie's and my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. The time we spent with Skip and Landon in Las Vegas will always be remembered and cherished. Landon is (and yes, I do mean is) a very impressive young man. From our own experience, we can say the sorrow will lessen in time, but never go away. Love for the Lord and each other will grow and last forever.

I´ve had the joy of working with Landon for the past few months where he helped show me the ropes and frequently checked in on me to make sure I was doing well - both in and outside of work. During this time, I've gotten to know him as a genuine and kind man who really cares. About his family, his friends, his colleagues, and his career. I'm truly grateful I had the privilege of spending some time with him in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago, where he enthusiastically explained to me in great detail how to perfectly season and make a steak. Classic Landon.

And I think that's what I'll miss the most. His bright presence, brotherly advice, his never-ending funny stories, and the camaraderie he brought to our team as a whole.

To his family: I'm sending my deepest condolences and prayers from Florida. And as my counterpart Amanda said, you truly should be proud of the man you raised.

May he rest in peace.

Our dear McCall friends - Marty & I & our kids were so saddened to hear of the passing of Landon. What a delightful young man he was. I remember a time he came over to our cabin and sat with Zola for the longest time & just chatted with her. They also prayed together. He was a very loving & kind soul. He & our AJ are only a day apart in age. AJ was particularly affected by this news as he & Landon spent some time together when we were all in McCall for the 4th. AJ also said he's seen Landon a couple of times since then & had enjoyed talking with him. Please know the Howard's love you & your family & are keeping you in our prayers. May God comfort you in this time of loss. Marty & Karen Howard

Skip and Melinda,
We send our deepest condolences at the passing of Landon. We do not use the term loss because we all know where Landon is now...in God´s loving arms. When I attended the services for your dad, Sam, I had the pleasure once again to speak to all of your children, Lincoln, Logan, Lauren, and Landon. They were all so gracious and kind, as they always are. I remember thinking you are a wonderful family. I know you will hold close to one another as you grieve for your beloved son and brother. Please know that so many of us are holding all of you close spiritually at this time. May the memory of his laugher and singing and joy bring some peace at this time. God bless all of you and God bless Landon. Dirk and Patricia Kempthorne

I will miss Landon dearly. He was an amazing person. Of all the times I spent with Landon, I can't think of a single time that wasn't a great. His greatest attribute was that he always loved God and he was never ashamed to share that with people. He once dragged me to church on Easter in Moscow. It was probably the only time I went to church that whole year. Thank God for Landon and his life.

I worked at Prevalent with Landon and he was always a pleasure to talk to. He was funny, outgoing, and never met a stranger! He could make you feel like he had known you all of your life! I got to meet him in person recently when he was in Phoenix. His smile was contagious! He was a bright soul who lit up the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him! My deepest sympathies to his family. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Landon for a little under a year. I feel very fortunate to be able to spend his last moments with us here in Phoenix during a company event. Getting to know Landon was an absolute delight. He is so kind-hearted, funny, thoughtful. To his family: you should be very proud by the man that you´ve raised. I´m truly sorry that I won´t be seeing him or hearing him on a regular basis like I´ve gotten so used to. I´ll miss his voice and his banter in the overall positive presence he brought to the team. May he rest in peace.
