Larry Shideler Obituary

Larry Shideler
July 25, 1944 - August 31, 2023
Eagle, Idaho - Larry R. Shideler, 79, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023 in Meridian, Idaho.
Services for Larry will be held at Cloverdale Seventh Day Adventist Church at 1115 North Cloverdale Road in Boise on Thursday, September 7, at 2pm. He will be interred at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise immediately following. A friends and family gathering will be held at the Church beginning at 12:30pm.
Larry was born July 25, 1944 in Boise and is survived by his wife, Sharon (McAdams) Shideler; his daughter, Jennifer Vining; his two sons, Steven Shideler and Michael Shideler; and his grandchildren, Hunter Smith, Ally Smith, and Cody Shideler.
Larry is also survived by his sister Joan Bitzer and his brother Dale Shideler. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Shideler, his mother, Verna Shideler, and his sister, Janet Maruska.
Larry and Sharon were married on June 20, 1965 and spent their lives together in Idaho and Oregon before retiring to Eagle, Idaho, near their children and grandchildren.
Larry was a successful businessman, starting Boise Janitorial and Bonneville Cleaning in Idaho Falls in the 1960's and later Western Building Maintenance in Boise. He will be best remembered as an innovator, inventor and a holder of many patents. Thanks to his ingenuity and his desire to improve productivity Larry and his team created the modern-day lightweight backpack vacuum in 1983. You can still find ProTeam vacuums in hotels and institutions throughout the world. Real estate investments and other business interests kept Larry busy long after his retirement.
Larry loved to give back to his church and school, the Mount Ellis Academy in Bozeman, Montana. Mount Ellis Academy was an important part of his life since graduating there in 1962. His support continues today through the Adventist Education Foundation which he endowed in 2009.
When Larry wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with family, motorcycle touring with friends, collecting classic cars, following auto racing and travelling the world with his lifelong partner, Sharon.
Larry's quick wit and dry sense of humor endeared him to all who met him.
His many friends and family will tell you Larry lived his life to the absolute fullest.

My heart felt condolences to all of Larry's family. I'm sorry I was unable to attend services due to a tradeshow commitment. It was a pleasure knowing Larry and working for him. He was a genuine nice person. Larry's legacy will live on, as he changed an industry that positively impacted so many. His contribution is still discussed and shared everywhere I go. May your loss soon be filled with wonderful memories.

Larry made everyone feel like a special friend and an important person in his life.
I first met Larry in high school in 1961 and he was someone I always looked up to. Many years later we met at high school reunions and shared more great memories with our wives. One year was very special touring Yellowstone Park together.
Larry thank you for being an example of what Christian, leader and friend is. I will always miss you.

Larry was one of the friendliest people one might ever meet. Even though it may have been years since he last saw you he would greet you with a big smile, inquiries about your family, and words of encouragement. He had a zest for life that was contagious.
