Laurie Allen Obituary

Laurie Allen

September 6, 1958 - September 29, 2023

Lahiana, Hawaii - Laurie Dale Allen, age 65, died in peace on September 29, 2023 at Straub Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii, surrounded by her husband Perry Allen and her three siblings.

She suffered critical burns sustained as she selflessly sacrificed her life trying to save others in the Maui Wild Fires on the afternoon of August 8th. She fought very hard for seven weeks against all odds and excruciating pain, supported every day by her husband, Perry and all the dedicated staff at the Straub burn unit.

Laurie the youngest of four children was born to Milton and Mildred Jones on September 6, 1958 in a naval hospital in Kittery, Maine shortly after father was transferred suddenly from Roswell, New Mexico.

Her mother was 7 months pregnant with Laurie when the whole family packed up, piled into a crowded Dodge station wagon and drove across the country to a new assignment in Portsmith, New Hampshire. The daughter of an Air Force career officer, it wasn't long before the family relocated again, moving six more times before her father retired in Boise, his home town, when Laurie was twelve. The family returned to their home in the Highlands and Laurie was finally able to settle in one place, graduating from Boise High School in 1976. A meticulous traveller, she set out on her biggest adventure yet when she joined Perry in Lahaina in 2010. They found a paradise where they could swim, snorkel, bike, kayak or walk into Lahaina to watch the beautiful sunsets so typical of west Maui. In April 2022 Laurie and Perry were married on the beach in Waimea after a twenty year loving relationship. She traveled to Central America several times including Panama, the island of Roatan, and the Mayan ruins of Copan, Honduras. Recently, she and Perry fell in love with the people, cuisine, architecture and history of Savannah and Charleston on the south eastern coast. Her many friends and family in Maui, Idaho and around the country are devastated by the unexpected tragedy that took her life and deeply mourn the loss of her irreplaceable kind and loving spirit. Somehow she seemed ageless, guided by her Christian faith, inspired by her love of music and live concerts, and her desire to learn, travel and seek adventure. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Perry Allen, originally from Nampa, Idaho as well as her three siblings Janel Jones, Dave Jones and Kelly (Loretta) Jones; Seven nieces and nephews- Kane, Brent (Kate), Bethany (Melissa) and Trey (Marci) Jones, Jennifer Joliffe (Justin) all of Boise; Josh Jones (LiSun) of Seattle and Cassidy Kors (Mattie) of Los Angeles. And their children Jake, Hannah, Ava, Leora, Ellis, Moses, Violet, Sean, Matthew, Corey, Nate, Kailee, Clyde and Louis. Laurie will be dearly missed and the world will not be the same without her in it. In lieu of flowers or gifts donations can be made to GoFundMe Perry and Laurie Allen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday. November 18th, at 10:30am at the Vineyard Church 4950 N. Bradley St., Garden City, ID. Followed by a meal to share with Laurie's friends and family.
