Our beautiful and incredibly loved Lily Irene Kim McCaslin passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the young age of 23. Lily was born in TaiZhou City, Jiangsu, China and arrived home to her family in Boise on her first birthday, March 11, 1999. She attended Roosevelt Elementary, North Junior High, Boise High, and University of Utah, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Lily was exceptionally bright and driven and excelled in music and athletics, participating in orchestra, chamber orchestra, and volleyball at North and Boise High. She found her bliss and community in ultimate frisbee. Her joyfulness radiated from her and touched everyone close to her, and she entertained all with her humor. She was drawn to the outdoors, and spent much of her time in the forests and deserts of Idaho and Utah, skiing and mountain biking. She translated this passion into her work in ski and bike shops, accompanied everywhere by her beloved dog Odin. Lily adopted Odin in 2019, and the two have been inseparable and unmatched in their zeal for exploration and adventure ever since.
Lily's bright spirit and curiosity guided her to seek out new experiences, and she had a fearlessness that inspires us everyday. Her spontaneity and resolve challenged us at times, but filled her life and ours with great joy and wonder. No matter the struggles she faced, she always had immeasurable empathy for others who were suffering.
Lily is survived by her mother Melinda, sister Hanna, grandmother Harriet Netson, aunt Marybeth Netson, all from Boise, her precious Odin, and dear friends in Boise and Salt Lake City. She joins her grandfather Robert, uncle Martin, and childhood pet Phoebe.
A memorial service will be held in Boise on Sunday November 28 on the patio at Richard's at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Idaho Humane Society or to Active Minds (activeminds.org).

Our deepest sympathy to Lily´s wonderful family, in hearing of this tremendous loss. Lily was a cheerful and delightful neighborhood playmate to our daughter who shared roots in China, soccer, orchestra, and many fun times with Lily :) We were blessed to have to be her as a neighbor, and heartbroken to hear of her passing.

Just now learned about our world losing this most precious woman. Although I didn´t know her I learned about her through her grandmother. I did learn enough to know that Lily was a shining star. My heart is breaking for her grandmother mother and her sister along with extended family and friends. May loving arms surround this family at this greatest time of need.

I knew Lily from playing ultimate frisbee at the University of Utah. She was such a beautiful person, inside and out. My favorite memory of her is going teleskiing with her. We went up to Alta and had a blast getting used to the goofy setup. That was the first and last day I teleskiied, but Lily fell totally in love and kept teleskiing after that. Lily was a passionate, fierce, determined person and I will miss her a lot. Sending love to her family and Odin too <3

I was heartbroken to hear of the sudden passing of Lily. She was an exceptional violinist and student in my studio, so full of life, joy, and passion for her music! She was an absolute gem of a student and person! Our wonderful times together making music will forever be etched in my memory.
