Lydia Barker
Lydia (Bonnie) LaVon Slade Peters Barker, 81, passed away peacefully in the home of her son, Johny Peters, to join her Heavenly Father on Sept 3, 2018. Lydia was born Nov 4, 1936 to Marion Jefferson (Bill) and Laura (Maxwell) Slade in Nutrioso, AZ. She had an amazing childhood riding horses, attending dances and being with family and friends. She graduated from Round Valley High School. She married John Derl (Buster) Peters on Nov 18, 1955. They lived for a short while in Globe, AZ where they had their first son, Lyle Jeffrey Peters. They then moved to Boise, ID where they adopted a son, Johny Slade Peters in 1966 and a daughter, Vicki Ladawn Peters in 1968. John Derl (Buster) was tragically killed in a truck-train accident in April of 1970. Lydia married Roger L. Barker in April of 1974 and together they raised the three children in Boise. Roger passed away in Feb of 2016. Lydia loved dearly and deeply her three children; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lydia was a tremendous cook, loved to read, and spending time with her family was her
favorite thing to do. Lydia was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. She and Buster were sealed to each other in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple and later had her children sealed to her as well.
Lydia was known as "Grammy" by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and they all
loved her dearly. Lydia also had a soft spot for pets having had numerous cats and dogs, one of
which, Bentley, moved to Michigan with her in 2017.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; step mother Nellie Slade; her husbands John Derl and Roger; a sister Louise Whiting and her husband Robert; brother Arnold (Tuffy) Slade; a daughter-in-law Cecelia Peters; and two nieces Stefanie Bitton and Chante Whiting.
Lydia leaves behind her sister Billie (Gary) Ward of ID; sons Lyle Jeffrey (Barbara) Peters
of AR and Johny Slade (Amy) Peters of MI; and daughter Vicki Ladawn Peters of ID;
grandchildren: Michelle (Nate) Bennett of UT, Megan (Rick) Pimm of OR, Kade (Karissa)
Peters of CA, Jon Wm. Peters USAF, NV, Abby (Tristin) Martin of USAF, England, and James
Peters of MI; great-grandchildren: Boudry, Cole and Gage of UT, Adi, Glen, Eva and Carli
Pimm of OR and Afton, Phillip and Jaxson of ID; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends
she considered to be family.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept 13, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 8620 Goddard Rd in Boise with a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial at Dry Creek Cemetery following the services. Arrangements by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 208-467-7300 Condolences may be expressed at zeyerfuneralchapel.com.
