Mark Sandmeyer Obituary

Mark Sandmeyer
November 20, 1949 - January 26, 2023
Boise, Idaho - Mark Stephen Sandmeyer, 73, passed away peacefully at the Boise Veteran's Home. Born in Boise to Paul and Jacqueline Sandmeyer, he graduated Bishop Kelly High in 1967 and earned a science degree from Boise State College in 1971. Mark married Jennifer Tiddy in 1978 and had two sons, Jake and Ian. As a construction foreman, he did projects in Saudi Arabia and Africa, travelled the world, and settled in the North End in 1981 where he ran a construction business for 30 years. Mark had extraordinary talents in concrete and masonry and left a legacy of his workmanship. He was quiet and reserved, but thoughtful, creative, incredibly funny, and spoke several languages fluently. He loved fishing, reading, and home projects. His brother Phillip, who cared for him in his last years, passed away days after him. Mark was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Margaret Tiemeier and Marilyn Sandmeyer, and survived by sons, Jake and Ian; grandchildren, Chloe, Ezra, Eliah, Sophia, and Laila; brother, Eric; and sisters, Catherine Baker, Paula Hull, Elaine Bruce, and Barbara McCurdy. A memorial service will be held at El Korah Shrine, 1118 W Idaho St, on Feb 10 at 3pm.

I lived across the street from the Sandmeyer family when we were all kids. I remember playing baseball with Phillip and Mark along with the rest of the kids in the neighborhood and going fishing, and just being kids. The Sandmeyer family was a wonderful group (a large one) and I have great memories that I will cherish forever.

OMG, we just found out about Mark. I suppose it is the consequence of a digital world. We are saddened by the news, even more so because we did not know at the time and not able to reach out in February. He will be missed.

My son Nick, husband Jack, and I lived next door to Mark Jannifer, Jake and Ian for many years on N 15th St., first on the South side of our house, then on the North! One of the best things about moving into our house was having the Sandmeyers as neighbors.

Mark was a great guy - he was always willing to help or at least give information on how to do things. At one point, Mark built a basketball court between our two houses for the boys and for the parents as well. It was great fun and saw many, many hours of use. It is a part of our lives we will never forget.

We sold our house recently - the new owner wanted the fence Mark built between our houses to be "moved" 12". The fence is a masterpiece, like most of the things Mark did, and it was built to last - concrete, stone, wood. I think the base of the fence goes down as far as China! I think the fence will stay because it CANNOT be moved!

This is with love from Jacque, Jack and Nick.

Man..., I was just talking about Mark this morning..I can't believe it!!!?He was a Superhero to me.I remember some roughians moving across the alley, like 15 of em, constantly harassing and bullying myself and Jake and Ian..All I know is Mark cleared a path for us for the next 200 years.. Nobody else ever bothered us again.I wanted to introduce Mark to my son Jake.I wanted to tell him about the folks selling their house and the new guy wanting the neighbors to move that giant , indestructible concrete fence you built over one foot. You were the best neighbor ever.I really, really appreciate you.

Mark was my first boyfriend while he was at Bishop Kelly and I was at Capital High. I have thought of him often over the years and felt sure he was having an adventurous life.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mark. We worked in Saudi and having Mark there made it a lot of fun. Mark never changed, he was the same thoughtful, kind person all the years I knew him. Plus, he could be hysterically funny. He will be missed.

Mr. Mark could literally tackle a Scottish bull by the horns! Whether in Africa speaking native tongue or teaching nonenglish speakers while mucking he communicated by setting an example of hard work.
Ideas for our new house began on a bar napkin at Gil's.
Among his shenanigans a puppy in a satchel was left under our kitchen table and we are forever grateful!
RIP Mark you're definitely a Renaissance man.
