Martha Matlock Obituary

Martha M. Matlock
6/29/1919-10/25/2017
Martha (Marty) Marie (Pogreba) Matlock peacefully passed away on October 25, 2017 at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Chesney Matlock.
Marty was born on June 29, 1919 in Montana Ridge, WI to John Aloizy Pogreba and Julia (Sluga) one of four children, Aloizy, Rudy and Claire Pogreba (Sill), all having preceded her in death.
She graduated from Arcadia (WI) High School and soon joined the WWII War effort by working for North American Aviation in Los Angeles CA, inspecting the P51 Mustang. On a night out with her friends, she met the love of her life, John Matlock at Venice Beach , where he was on R and R after being in the South Pacific. They were married in Ft. Sill, OK, on April 2, 1945. Soon followed five children and their children: JoAnne (Budd) Hall, of Portland, OR and John (Dani) Hall, Taylor Saxon, and Deidre Hall (Rae Anne Montoya), John James (Jeanne) Matlock of St Clair, MN, Jean Reed of Savannah, GA, Frederick (Jennifer) Foster, Janet Krawl (d.1986), of Idaho City, ID, Korina Martinez, and Kary Krawl McBaine and Jerry (Onie, d. 2012) of Fruitland, with numerous beloved, great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
The first twenty years of marriage were spent raising children but the day came when Marty wanted to work outside the home. She was hired by the Post Office as a rural letter carrier in Boise, a job she loved while making many friends. After retirement, she and John were snowbirds in Yuma, AZ, where they enjoyed the good life of friends, travel to other countries, and exploring America where John would look for steeples so she could go to church on Sunday.
Marty and John were also very involved with the DAV and the VFW both in Yuma and Fruitland, where they settled until John died in 2006. Marty remained in Fruitland where she kept busy with her friends, church and family.
Services will held on Monday, October 30th at 10am at Corpus Christi Church, 900 NW 7th St, in Fruitland ID 83619, with a Cemetery Service following at 1:30pm at Joplin Cemetery, 12412 Chinden Blvd, Eagle ID 83616.
