Mary Heleker Obituary
1925 - 2015
Mary Nadine "Bea" Heleker, age 89, passed away November 5, 2015 at the Edgewood Spring Assisted Living Facility in Fruitland. She was born December 13, 1925 on the family farm north of Payette to Nels Marinus and Kate (Hanson) Jensen.
In 1943, Mary graduated from Payette High School and then worked one year in the Long Beach Naval Shipyard in a secretary pool during WWII. She married Harry "Pat" Heleker in the Payette United Methodist Church in 1946.
Always proud of her Danish heritage, she visited cousins in Denmark twice and enjoyed other opportunities to travel. She was an avid Mariner and Laker's fan. Mary was active in the United Methodist Church Choir and Women's Circle activities as well as the Payette Eastern Star Chapter for many years. Before retiring from the Department of Health and Welfare, she worked as a legal secretary for Vernon Daniels, John Gatchel and Stephen Batt in Payette.
She is survived by her children, Patty (Jim) Simms of Carlisle, PA, Sharon (Bill) Lawrence of Vale, OR, Kathy (Don) Hammond of Boise, ID, Brent (Donna) Heleker of Hayden, ID, Mark (Lorrie) Heleker of Payette and sister-in-law, Hope Jackson of Weiser. She was dearly loved by 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband of 60 years and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother and two sisters.
A special thank you is extended to the staffs at Edgewood Spring Creek Assisted Living and Encompass Home Health and Hospice in Fruitland and Brookdale Assisted Living in Ontario, OR for their support and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 17th at the Payette United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Rosedale Memorial Gardens, Payette. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Mary's family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Payette United Methodist Church or the Harmon Killebrew Miracle League Field, c/o Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, P.O. Box 730, Payette, ID 83661.
