Matthew Beer Obituary

Matthew Stephen Beer, a former resident of Boise and Sun Valley, Idaho passed away suddenly on December 7, 2010, in Santa Cruz, Calif. Matthew was born in Boise, Idaho on April 30, 1975. After attending Washington Elementary School and North Junior High, he moved to Sun Valley in 1989 with his mother, Meri Lynn Beer, where he fostered many life-long friendships. Matt and his friends shared a passion for snowboarding and the mountains. Matt graduated from Wood River High School in 1994. After high school, Matt's adventures took him to San Diego, New York City and eventually Santa Cruz where he made his home. In Santa Cruz, Matt enjoyed the beach life with his dog, Loopy, and he pursued a career in the medical field. Matt was an inspiration to everyone he met. He touched so many lives in such a short period of time. Matt's only mission in life was to love his friends and family and to make a positive impact on everyone he encountered. That's it. That's what Matt did. Matt was a selfless, egoless and virtuous soul. Those who were fortunate enough to know him have very heavy hearts. Their angel on earth ran out of time. Their lives will never be the same and rightly so. Matt was preceded in death by his mother and will be greatly missed by his father, Stephen L. Beer, his step-mother, Nora Beer, his sister, Jennifer Beer (Jason) O'Keefe, his brother, Christopher Neff, his extended family, Mary Grandjean, Stephanee Rowbury, Jennifer (Terry) Miller and Kimberly (Jeff) Kenny, and countless friends. Rest in peace our great friend, lover, laugher and silly bear hugger, we will always love you. Services will be held on December 21, 2010 at 6 p.m. at Whiskey Jacques in Ketchum. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for the creation of memorial benches to be placed in his name in Ketchum and Santa Cruz. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo office. The account number is 3343984161. If you prefer, checks can be mailed directly to Deida Runswick, P.O. Box 4010, Hailey, Idaho 83333.

Matt, my dear cousin, I never got to know you and I find that so very sad. I always thought there would be time somewhere down the road of life to get to know you, and Jennifer, my cousins. Rest in peace. And when you see your Aunt Susan up there, tell her hi for me.

My son, Max, introduced me to Matt years ago when they were romping around Santa Cruz having a good ole' time and I immediately fell in love with his fun-loving sense of spirit....just really a neat man! There is something just so wholesome about a "man and his dog" that makes life seem so simple....Matt had that boyish love for living life. Even though I only saw him at times with my son, I cried a tear that he is gone as he is definetly ONE of a kind. God bless you Matt, your family and your dear loving friends. My heart is filled with sadness to hear of Matt's passing. We worked together at Elcamino Hospital. A transplant form Tennessee. He was the first good/polite person I met in Califorina. He was a good man, with a big heart. Always had a big bear hug for me. He will be missed. God bless him and his family in this time. Goodbye my friend. Rest in peace.

I was lucky enough to babysit for this wonderful family a few short years way back in his golden curl days. As a boy, Matt was a livewire, an instigator of fun and a joy. He obviously has left a good quality of memories to friends as a man.

In the early 2000, I had the opportunity to meet matt beer! I still remember when our common friend, max, brought him to hang out at my house, and we became friends instantly! Matt was a great guy, a wonderful soul who had an amazing heart, filled with love for his family and friends! You will be missed, buddy!

Fortunate. That is the word I would use to describe knowing Matt Beer. Every time I saw that man, he made me smile. He was a genuine straight forward person and a hell of a lot of fun to be around. I hope to see you again somewhere in this universe brother. You will be sorely missed. Peace.

Talented, intelligent, funny, fun, open, adventurous, always had/made time, calm, excited, loving father, loving husband, loving friend, great photographer, warrior, optimist, supportive, willing, sportsman, musician . . . I am leaving so much out. There are many things I will not forget about Hefe (Boss) as I called and knew him. Matt changed my life and exposed me to so much happiness and love as he did many others. I'll never forget the times we had together or that welcoming million dollar smile!

Matt, you exposed me to the power of unconditional friendship. You'll always have a place in my heart . . . I love you and I miss you Hefe . . . thanks for all of the fantastic memories!

Yesterday was beautiful. The weather, the friends and family, the memories, stories and pictures. Although I miss him terribly, I take comfort in sharing my own memories, and being the wife, mother and friend that I know Matt would want me to be. Thank you to Matt's family, I loved meeting you yesterday, and look forward to sharing more stories in Idaho.... Matt always had a way of reminding me how lucky I am. I always wanted to be the care-free, single gal living on the beach, while Matt wanted to be the family man with the white picket fence living in the suburbs. We both had a way of reminding each other how lucky we both had it:) I will never forget our long talks and all of the advice he has given me over the years. Rest in peace my friend, I am so glad that you are spending this Christmas with your mom.

Dear Steve, Jennifer, Mary, Chris, and Family,
You are all in my thoughts and heart at such a difficult time. I only knew Matt as a young boy, but he was very much like a younger brother to me. He was in and out of our house as much as we were in and out of his. Matt was cheerful and always on the go...I can see him now, carefree with curly blond locks riding around the block on his bigwheel, always moving.........may he find peace. xox jennifer bennett
