Dear Family,

I know Mike in High school and in college. I enjoyed spending time with him at his TeePee in Olympia.
He was always fun to go hiking with. I am sure he is hiking and mountain climbing somewhere right now.

Best to you all.

Mike has moved up to a room with a view, a panorama too beautiful for words. He spent so much of his life searching for heaven on earth and with divine GPS has located his heavenly campsite.
Mike made the first few years of my college experiences in Seattle and Olympia so memorable. His beautiful smile and genuine warmth was unique. His enthusiasm for outdoor discovery was inspiring. Who could forget driving on snowy roads to ski in that crazy vintage Anglia, his excitement for pitching a tent in the snow, or the great care he took to rope in when climbing.
I treasure the memory of walking through the soggy horse pasture in Olympia to the Tepee for a one skillet dinner over a camp stove, wet wool socks hanging to dry. Mike's way to save money on dormitory fees, and enjoy camping every day. He was years ahead of the tiny house movement. Mike was kind enough to let my cat (given to me by Seattle Indians) stay in the Tepee. We rode bicycles in the rain over banana slugs and poured over Forest Service maps by flashlight planning the next adventure when class was out.
In my mind's eye Mike is still smiling, wearing a Pendleton, carrying a big backpack and leading the way on a beautiful mountain trail dotted with wildflowers. On belay? Belay on!

Sheri, Dwayne, Jeff, and Camden, Sarah, Kathleen and Cody,
Wishing you comfort and courage to face the days ahead and the loving memories of your Dad in your heart. Lean on your wonderful and loving family for strength, and always remember how much you are loved.

I saw this poem right after your Dad passed away, and it reminded me of him and the way he lived his life.
Love you all
Diane and Chuck

"What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget"

Mike, was a childhood friend and buddy. Mike was a great guy, that everyone his age, who knew him, considered him a friend. I haven't seen Mike since high school, but knew he would live a full and colorful life because he was so full of adventure. My prayers to his family. Mike, thank you for blessing us all.

Mike inspired both Jeff Lowe and I. He lived his dreams and approached his health challenge as one more adventure. It doesn't get any better than that.We know how hard that road is and are grateful to have met Mike and shared the journey just a bit. We wish his family and friends peace and loving memories of Mike.

I so admire the grace and bravery Mike displayed in his battle with this devastating disease. For someone so full of life and so physically up to many challenges, there is no justice in the way this disease limited him. He was such a gentle, sweet person and I think of his lovely smile. He loved children so much and took such pleasure in his children and grandchildren. He will be missed so very much. I love you my dear brother.

Dear Mike:
Like your grandfather and your dad, you led a full life, never wanting to miss a moment of fun and adventure. While camping (you were 5), you famously awoke at dawn in the tent to announce that you were going to the lodge to relax. That pretty much sums you up.

You always wanted to be the best skier on the hill, the fastest racer on your bike, and to climb every mountain.
You were a great dad and you sacrificed a lot for your kids, and taught them the joys of the outdoors. We said our farewells to you on May 5, but we know that as time goes by and life's events unfold, you will stay with us in spirit.

The damned shackles of Parkinson's are now released and pain no longer has its grip on you. At last you are free to soar with the eagles and angels. Soar on little brother, soar on.
With Much love,
Sue

I have fond memories of the time that we spent together working at the ICBVI. Mike was a great professional and a very good friend. I appreciate all the remarkable things that he did during his lifetime and the positive person that he was with friends, co-workers, his family and all the people that he helped during the course of his professional life. Back in the day, we worked hard but Mike always found time for humor, stories and lightheartedness to spice up the day and that made working with him very enjoyable. Some of our best conversations were during lunchtime runs, when Mike would share stories from his past or pose some deep philosophical question for us to mull over. Mike had a very positive impact on me back in those days and I owe much to him for all that he shared and for modeling an appreciation for life, for humanity and for nature.

I remember Mike from high school as someone who, long before the rest of us had a clue, seemed to know who he was. I admired his independent curiouslity and quiet kindness. Since I live in Seattle, I regret that our paths didn't cross when he was in my part of the world. I am grieving with f all of you, but celebrating his life well- lived and his escape from such a hard disease. Know that you're in my thoughts.

Mike was truly a kind, compassionate, fun, and adventuresome soul. His smile could light up a room. You could always count on him to lend a helping hand. He was one of our endearing classmates at Boise High. Mike will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his beloved family. May His Precious Memory Be Eternal.
