R. Atkinson Obituary

R. Weldon Atkinson R. Weldon Atkinson, 75, passed away suddenly at his Boise home August 12, 2008. He was born April 21, 1933 to Warren and Mildred (Waits) Atkinson and graduated from Meridian High in 1952. He met the love of his life, Darlene Crawford in 1951 and were married July 30 1953. They just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past July. Weldon served in the Army during the Korean War before returning home to work at the family business his father started, Atkinson's Mirror & Glass. Weldon and Darlene were blessed with three beautiful children. Always on the go, they purchased a motor home and were off to the races with their son Dan, and traveled many miles and had many great adventures with their friends and family during Dan's motorcycle racing career. He was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one. Atkinson's Glass sponsored a bowling team that he was a member of for many years; it was about the fun, not the winning the team was famous for. He was a life member of the Owyhee Motorcycle Club, and spent many years involved with Treasure Valley Trail Machine Association. Weldon loved the outdoors and enjoyed activities including snowmobiling, boating at Arrowrock, working at OMC, building the family cabin and camping with family and friends. Retiring from the family business in 1995, he enjoyed golfing, spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Weldon never missed a sporting event that they were involved in. He especially enjoyed going to and tailgating at the BSU games, here and away, especially the Fiesta Bowl. God saw you were getting tired And a cure was not to be So he put his arms around you And whispered, "Come with Me" With tearful eyes we watched you suffer, And saw you fade away, Although we loved you dearly We could not make you stay A golden heart stopped beating, You're now at peaceful rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. -Carolyn Marvinetz Weldon is survived by his loving wife Darlene, daughters Deane (Nate) Gross, Susan Powell, and son Dan (Dorrie) Atkinson. Brother, Milt (Hope) Atkinson. Sister Lorraine (Stan) Bowman. eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Mildred Atkinson, and an Uncle Preston Atkinson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made either to the Ustick Baptist Church building fund (14301 W. McMillan Rd. Boise, ID 83713) or the American Cancer Society. A viewing for family and friends will be held Monday, August 18 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday Aug. 19, 2008 at Ustick Baptist Church, 14301 W. McMillian Road, Boise, followed by a graveside service at Cloverdale Memorial Park. Dear Darlene and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. Weldon was such a great guy. We sure had a lot of fun on all those camping trips.

I am sure of one thing and that is that if there are motorcycles in heaven, Weldon, Wayne, Claire and all those guys are having the best ride of their lives.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

All my love,

Carol Darling and family

Dear Atkinson Family,

Our sincere love and sympathy go out to each of you as you grieve the passing of Weldon. He was a very special man who was admired by many.

May you find comfort in knowing that he is at peace now and no longer in pain as he was welcomed into heaven by those who have gone before.
As believers in Christ we have the hope of one day being reunited for all eternity! What a day of rejoicing it will be!

Thank you Weldon for all you gave to each of us.

Love and Prayers,
The Luke Family
