Rebekah Hackney Obituary

Rebekah "Becky" Hackney passed away peacefully on May 2, 2010 after a courageous 15-month battle with brain cancer. She was surrounded by her family at her residence in Boise, ID. Rebekah was born on Feb. 26, 1944 in Oroville, CA. Her mother Meridel died during childbirth and she spent her first 3 years and many summers thereafter with her maternal grandmother Doris Atkins, while her father Harley was serving his country in WWII. After the war her father married Betty who helped raise her. Becky graduated from Chico High School in 1963. She resided in CA until 1973 when she moved to Boise. She married her husband, Fred on May 4, 1991 and moved to Wasilla, AK. In 2004 they moved to Anchor Point, AK to retire. Becky had a great love for animals and flowers, but especially her dogs. She had a big heart and often times put other's needs before her own. She had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to make other people laugh, as well as laugh at herself. Survived by her husband of 20 years Fred Hackney, her parents Harley and Lula Thomasson, her children: Tammy (Rick) Boyd, James Aaron (Kathy) Smith, and Jeri Ann (Scott) Looney; step-children, Lee Hackney and Stacy Hymas, sisters Jeannie Moore and Marcia (Robert) White, and brother Gene Stewart, her grandchildren: Lisa Marie Gonzalez, Randi Bekka Rakestraw, Joleen MeriDale Boyd, Chistopher Lee, Sabrina Marie, Tayler and Karrah Looney and one great grandson Branden Rey Gonzolalez. Preceded in death by her birth mother Dora Meridel, step-mother Betty Smith, and grandmother, Doris Atkins. Memorial contributions can be made to American Brain Tumor Association. www.abta.org. A celebration of Becky's life will be held on Friday May 7, 2010 at the Packard Estates Clubhouse, 2360 Hickory, Meridian, beginning at 6:00 p.m. There will be a memorial ceremony in Chico, CA. on May 14th, 2010. I will miss Becky so very much she brought laughter and joy to my life.We worked together at South Penninsula Hospital in Homer Alaska, and she never met a stranger she didn't reach out to.She will be missed by all of us who were lucky enough to get to know her as she passed through this life.

I'm sorry that Becky is gone. I haven't seen her in 20 years, but we we had some good times together on Lake Hazel Road, and I have fond memories of her. Brenda Greenman

It was a joy and privilege to know Becky. She loved life and, until the end, was full of interest in others, and welcomed everyone into her home. She will always be in our thoughts. Dan and Julie Looney
