Richard Brown Obituary

Richard Elwyn Brown, Jr. July 25, 1958 - August 10, 2009 Rick Brown was a man of great faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he passed away peacefully in his home on Aug. 10, 2009. Born in California on July 25, 1958 to Richard and Patrcia Brown, Rick graduated from Humbolt State University in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Resource Management and Planning. Rick worked a variety of environmental jobs for the government before landing the perfect job with the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Starting out as a park ranger at Old Mission, Rick traveled Idaho from north to south, with jobs at Heyburn State Park, The land of The Yankee Fork, Lake Cascade State Park, and culminating to the peak of his career as the South Region Manager at Boise headquarters. Those who knew Rick easily recognized his passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors in general. This passion was surpassed only by the deep love and devotion he had for his beautiful wife, Sandy (Hansen) Brown, and his three beautiful daughters Kimberly, Amanda, and Jamie. His four girls were the light of his eyes, and a source of great pride. Rick always said that he worked to live, not that he lived to work, but it was evident that he loved his job. In tribute and memoriam to his mentorship and impact on all those he worked with, the Heyburn Visitor Center will be dedicated in his honor. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful of a husband, father, brother, son, friend, and co-worker he was. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives' he touched. A memorial service for Rick will be held at Friendship Celebration Lutheran Church, 765 East Chinden Blvd. Meridian, Id., 83642, on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately following. Services are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel. Donations for the family may be made to "Helping Hands" c/o Jill Murphey, Idaho Parks and Recreation, P.O. Box 83720, Boise, Id., 83720.

We only met a few times, but each time it was a joy to be with Rick. He was obviously the kind of person who would be treasured by his friends and family for his happy, fun-loving personality. I wish I could have known him better. Our thoughts are with his family. Hopefully, their warm memories of this fine man will give them some peace as they deal with this painful loss. Our prayers are with them and with Rick.

Sandy, Kim, Amanda and Jamie:

Our hearts go out to you for your loss of such a wonderful husband and father and a man we are proud to have known and called our friend. We have thought about you so often since we left Idaho and wondered how Rick was doing. I just happened to be reading the ID paper tonight and found his obituary - we are so sorry!! He was so brave and kept his spirit up. He was so helpful when Larry suffered with his cancer, I wish I had been there to help you when you may have needed help. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always!!!

I got to know Rick when he was mgr of Lake Cascade State Park, and I worked for Tamarack Resort. We worked together on a lot of projects, and he was a great park manager.

My heart goes out to his family and his co-workers.

Rick was the epitomy of what a park ranger should aspire to be. It's a tragic loss.

I have always deemed it an honor for the time that Rick called me "friend". A tremendous person who blessed so many just by being himself. My love and prayers to all of his family at this time and the months up ahead. God bless you all, may His peace carry you.
