Richard Lloyd (Dick) Fisk, 92, passed away peacefully in his home Monday the 21st of January. He was born on December 25, 1920 in the house his grandfather built on their homestead near Rupert, Idaho. He was the oldest of five children.
He attended school in Rupert and later earned a certificate in Aviation Mechanics at Idaho State University in Pocatello. He worked, managed and taught in aviation mechanics. During the war he was stationed in Denver CO, Kingman, AZ and Hawaii.
During W.W.II Dick married Opal Saxton and their family grew to include daughters Kathleen and later Linda. He remained in Idaho after the war. He succeeded at many entrepreneurial ventures in life using his sharp wit and level head. Calling Dick a handyman would be an understatement. He could repair anything. His last vocation was managing Transport Fuel Service, delivering oil commercially and residentially for about forty years.
Dick was a nurturer. He had short fat fingers and a green thumb. His yearly garden produced a bountiful harvest that left many coming to him for gardening advice. His nurturing spirit extended to the many pets he enjoyed in his lifetime. This even includes gathering abandoned duck eggs from the park and incubating them in the spare bedroom. His devotion to the well being of living things was expressed in so many ways. He cared for all people, especially family. He had this jolly essence that rivaled that of Santa Clause bringing as much joy to small children as they brought to him. Kids of nearly any age were drawn to him.
He married Ida Keleman in 1975 and joined her in caring for her family, Chris, Shawn and Michelle. They later raised their grandchild Dan Rowe. During his life he enjoyed doing things like fishing, hunting, traveling, tinkering, and smoking the occasional cigar. He centered his life around family and being a provider.
Dick leaves behind his wife, Ida of 38 years. He is survived by his daughters Kathleen Preece (Stephen) and Linda Miller (Philip) and step daughters Chris Compton (Randy) and Michelle Keleman. Also grandchildren Dan Rowe (Courtney), Jon Hite, Jacob Hite (Lisa), Colleen Wonacott (Tony), April Fagerson (Aaron), Joe Compton (Bree), Mary Anne Compton, Marreen Baker-Burton, Adam Ingram. Great-grandchildren, Zayden. Cody , Kelsey , McKenna , Max, and Finn. He is also survived by his sister Mary Lee Chase.
He was preceded in death by infant sister Marjorie, sister Maureen Stefan, brother Jim Fisk, and step son Shawn Keleman.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, January 28th at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 5525 N. Glenwood St., Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, Jan 29th at 12:00 noon.
Luncheon to follow Mass and burial will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 317 W. Overland, Boise, 83705. Condolences may be made at www.bowmanfuneral.com.
