Robert Pere McIntyre
February 4, 1942 - February 3, 2025
Garden Valley, Idaho - Robert Pere McIntyre "Mac" was born to Robert and Kathryn McIntyre in Mammoth, Utah, February 4, 1942, died February 3, 2025, after a long battle with dementia and renal complications.
Robert was known to his family and friends as "Pere" until college. His family worked in a family-owned gold mine in Mammoth that was acquired after driving a herd of cattle from Texas to Utah many years earlier. After the mine was sold the McIntyre family moved to Washington State. While there Pere attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School. While in high school he played football and basketball and made lifelong friends. Mac earned a football scholarship to Western Washington University. He went on to attend the University of Washington, where he graduated with an undergraduate degree in history and a master's degree in education. After college he taught school for a few years in Washington before moving his young family to Boise, Idaho.
Mac's parents moved to Boise, so Mac and his first wife, Phyllis, and their children, Rosalie and Ted, moved to Boise to be closer to them. He was employed in the Boise School District as a principal at Lincoln School for most of his educational career. While in the Boise School District, he acquired a master's degree in School Administration at the University of Idaho. He eventually moved to the Dennis Technical Education center, where he supervised the automotive and building construction programs before retiring in 2001.
While growing up Mac's dad, Bob, instilled in him a great love of the outdoors. Bob took Mac hunting, fishing, camping and hiking; all activities Mac loved. Many high school buddies, like his great friend Pat Druxman, joined Mac in the hunting, fishing, camping and hiking adventures, as well as working for the Forest Service. When he moved to Idaho Mac took to Idaho hunting, fishing, camping, hiking boating /rafting life with gusto. He loved the Idaho outdoor life and shared this zest for the outdoors with his children and children's friends. He and his children enjoyed many, many years of duck, and pheasant hunting, deer and elk hunting, fishing and camping. They especially loved white water rafting where memories were made on the Payette, middle fork of the Salmon (Mckay Bar Ranch) and Lochsa rivers. His best hunting buddies were his son, Ted, and his good friend, Tim Wilson.
When Marion Summers came into his life, she joined Mac in all of his outdoor adventures. One time they were stuck on a high mountain road blocked by a snowbank and had to dig out using the camper plates because Mac forgot the shovel! Mac and Marion white water rafted and kayaked on the Payette, several Salmon River forks, the Snake, and even the Missouri River with her cousin Ken Klein, his wife Barbara and their children. Mac and Marion found a great group of rafting friends with whom they rafted every summer for years. Mac was the epitome of the Idaho Mountain Man, and he and Marion explored Idaho together for many years.
They chose Garden Valley for retirement and together they built their house. Friday night dates were spent at building supply stores before they headed up to Garden Valley to continue the building on their property. Amazingly, they agreed on every detail of building except the carpet in the loft. However, once Mac and Brent Loveless installed it, Marion loved it.
Mac passed on his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren, including hunting with granddaughters Kimber McIntyre and grandson Alex Borgardts. He also took granddaughters Audrey and Piper McIntyre, and Natalie Summers to the shooting range to shoot targets. Mac and Marion joined a great group of friends in the Garden Valley Shooting club shooting clay birds. Mac continued shooting at the Club until a few weeks before he died. Mac enriched the lives of his family and friends with his lively sense of humor, his love of the Idaho outdoors, and time with friends and family.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe McIntyre and his sister, Peggy Blanchard.
He leaves his loving and dedicated wife of 40 years, Marion Summers, his children Rosalie McIntyre Borgardts, (Allen) ; Ted McIntyre; stepson Tony Summers (Becky); grandchildren Robert "Alex" Borgardts:, Kelsey Reilly (Borgardts ); Joshua Borgardts, Kimber, Audrey and Piper McIntyre, step grandchildren Jake, Natalie, Amber, Aleah; his dear nieces, Denise Gulas, Barbara Boettcher, nephew,Tim Roehl, his brother's wife Pam McIntyre and niece Torie Rynning; (McIntyre) along with cousins and great-grandchildren.....
