Roland Lodge Obituary

Roland Ryan Lodge Sunrise: September, 1 1937 Caldwell, Idaho Sunset: January 16, 2009 Paradise Valley, Arizona As the youngest son of Norman C. and Mary Lodge, Roland lived in Caldwell, Idaho. He spent his summers working on the Lodge ranch at Jordan Valley, Oregon. During his high school years, he was active in football. Roland attended the University of Idaho graduating in the top ten of his class receiving a BS in agricultural animal health. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. During his freshman year, he developed osteomyelitis. Roland was always in a hurry to get on with life, to be his own man, and to make his mark in the world. He was hired by Commercial Solvents in San Francisco. His career was interrupted by the draft. He served two years in the Army as a chaplain's assistant. On Aug. 17, 1963, Roland married Darleen Peach Clintsman in Priest River, Idaho, and on Feb. 28, 1978, his son, Ryan Ralph was born in Spokane, Wash. Roland returned to Commercial Solvents and then over the years his job as cattle specialist evolved through the merger of three companies. Later he began in a new direction with Oxion Inc. with Jim Persinger focusing on a totally different emphasis of water penetration in agriculture and cattle, moving as always into the future. During Roland's 50 year career, he traveled the world many times over meeting world business leaders and found the challenges presented to him exhilarating. From privileged society to the workers in the field, he gained understanding and ability to look at individuals and their values, dreams and hopes. He developed the ability to transport himself beyond the limits that are static in most people. Roland was a most humble man, and he leaves a legacy of comfort, generosity, caring and understanding. Complex and private, he conducted his life in simple truths and with devotion and loyalty, Roland had deep affection for his family and friends. He took pleasure in fishing and barbecuing a variety of delicious meat, fish and vegetables for both small and large groups. Roland is survived by his wife of 45 years, Darleen Peach Lodge of Paradise Valley and his son, Ryan Ralph Lodge of Sandpoint and Priest Lake, Idaho, along with three brothers, Norman (Tubo) Lodge and wife Sandy of Boise, Idaho, William Lodge and wife Patsy of Caldwell, Idaho, and Edward Lodge and wife Patty Ann of Caldwell, Idaho. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 25 from 2-4 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11001 N. 40th St. in Phoenix with a Rosary at 2 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Monday, January 26 at 11 a.m. also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

To the Lodge family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I got to know Roland by attending Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Phoenix. Roland was a devout religious man. Now, I am sure he is with his family and God in heaven.

When Roland was home, I made sure that I sat in the same aisle as he and Darleen. I walked out with them and had some great conversations with him. Knowing him was a small part of my life but I got to know a great person. He was a truly a great man to know. I just couldn’t believe that he’s gone. I am so sorry that I cannot attend Roland’s funeral Mass since we have plans to leave town on Sunday morning.

May God Bless the entire Lodge Family.

Sincerely,
Fred Marchesi

I had known Rollie since 5th grade in Caldwell. He was one of the good guys with a great sense of humor. It was a pleasure to see him at our High School reunions. My condolences to Darlene and the Lodge family.

Our heart goes out to the entire Lodge family at this difficult time. How hard it must be to bury a brother, and the youngest one at that. Know that you are very much in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve. I know that our parents are looking down on you too.
With love, John and Kathy
