Royce Eckard

1933 - 2025

Royce Eckard passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born in Hatfield, Missouri on January 18, 1933, and raised on the family farm. He attended Boise Junior College located in Idaho where he met his soulmate, Mary Lynne Satterlee. They were happily married for 57 years. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Ord, CA. After the Army, he attended the University of Idaho where he achieved his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Later, he earned his Master's Degree in Engineering at San Jose State University.

Royce moved to Livermore, CA in 1957 where he worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory until he retired. He was a founding member for the Livermore-Pleasanton Elks Lodge #2117. As a member of the Elks, he was an Exalted Ruler and later, a District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler (Central District). He was very active in the local community supporting the Livermore Episcopal Church, the Livermore Aquacowboys swim team, the Livermore Centennial Committee, and promoted classes for the trades in the local high schools. He always made time on the weekends for his family.

Royce was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Murray Eckard; Wife, Mary Lynne Eckard; Brother, Rex Eckard; and second Wife, Evie Bakken. Royce is survived by his Daughter, Debbie Smith (Daryl); Son, David Eckard (Susan); grandchildren, Jason Smith, Nathan Smith, Denise Bowen, Ashley Wibby and their families (which include 8 great-grandchildren); and sister-in-law, Kathleen Eckard and her family.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 2020 Fifth Street, Livermore, CA 94550 on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to "Tunnels to Towers Foundation" in remembrance of Royce Eckard.
