Ruth Voss Obituary

Ruth C Voss

July 7, 1935 - May 15, 2025

Meridian, Idaho - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Voss, loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother. On May 15, 2025, she passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 89.

Ruth was born to Charles and Luella Valentine on July 7, 1935 in Twin Falls, ID. She grew up on a farm in Kimberly, ID, alongside her twin brother, Robert, and her older brother, Donald. She graduated from Kimberly High School and went on to attend Twin Falls Business College.

A meaningful connection was made during these early years that would shape the course of her life. While in the Army, her brother Don, met Herman Voss while stationed in Texas. The two quickly became close friends and found they both lived in the same region. On a visit home, Don introduced Herman to Ruth. The match led to their marriage in 1956 as well as their remarkable 64-year journey together. Their union was blessed with six children.

Ruth's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Raised in the Lutheran church, she remained an active member throughout her life, especially enjoying her time in the choir.

Ruth was an avid reader, and her baking skills were widely celebrated. Her confections, from cookies to pies, brought joy to family, friends, and neighbors alike. Ruth also loved working outdoors. Her yard was always well-tended and filled with colorful blossoms and bird feeders. She had a deep affection for animals, and many would say being reincarnated as one of Ruth's pets would be an ideal fate.

Ruth will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children: Rick Voss of Nampa, Kevin Voss of Star, Robert Voss of Boise, Christine Lewis of Otis Orchards, WA, and Cynthia Embree of Meridian. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Luella Valentine; her brothers, Donald and Robert Valentine; her husband, Herman Voss; and her son, Eric Voss.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Heatherwood Senior Living, 5277 W. Kootenai St., Boise. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in Ruth's memory.

Ruth was such a sweet, gentle, kind woman. She loved her kids. A devoted wife and mother. She made the best Cowboy(?) cookies! I'm sure we kept Ruth and Herman awake at night due to our late-night card/board games and listening to rock and roll records, right Kevin? She was such a sweetheart and I have very fond memories of her and that house on Buckingham Dr.
