Sabra McCreedy Obituary

Sabra Lindberg McCreedy

December 25, 1932 - May 18, 2024

Meridian, Idaho - Sabra Lindberg McCreedy, 91, of Meridian, ID (formerly Eagle, ID) passed away Saturday May 18th, surrounded by her loving family. Sabra was born Christmas Day, 1932 to David Lindberg and Lillian (Hollister) Lindberg in Cortland, NY. She was the youngest of 6 children, all who have preceded her in death. Sabra was a strong and caring person of many talents and interests, sharing a robust and wonderful life with her true love of 64 years, Clinton Thomas (Tom) McCreedy who passed away in 2018. Sabra was a remarkable and loving mother to her six children.

Sabra graduated from Green Mountain College in VT with a degree in music and drama. Sabra and Tom met there when Tom's quartet from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute went to Green Mountain College to perform. Music and theater were integral to their lives. Sabra had a beautiful singing voice and often performed as a soloist at churches she attended. One of her favorite pursuits was performing in community theater; as Joan of Arc in the Lark, with Tom in the Lion in Winter and in local Boise community theater productions.

Education was another passion of Sabra's and it became her career. She went back to college and attained a degree in education from Salem State College in MA. She was an inspirational teacher to the hundreds of students who passed through her classroom the 20 years she taught. She also served as president of the Meridian Education Association and as an effective advocate for the Idaho Education Association.

Sabra was an avid sewer, making much of the clothing for her children when they were young and a knitter, gifting each grandchild with a personalized quilt upon entering adulthood. Sabra and Tom, along with their children, remodeled each of their homes, leaving her children with a legacy of practical skills. Tom's work meant they moved ten times over the first 25 years of their marriage. Each time Sabra created a loving and secure home for her family, helping them adjust and thrive in each new place.

Sports was another of Sabra's joys; she loved playing golf and watching her favorite Boise State Bronco teams. She'd enthusiastically yell at the TV, being the loudest in the room, as she cheered on her "teams". Being avid and talented bridge players rounded out their shared interests and gave them a wide circle of friends.

Travel was also a shared passion she had with Tom. Throughout their marriage, they camped throughout all 48 of the lower states. They enjoyed their winters in Tucson, AZ but always looked forward to returning to their home in Idaho. They loved exploring their ancestry during trips to Europe.

Sabra leaves a large and loving family; daughter Marion and granddaughter Lydia, her husband Vinicius, a great grandchild on the way and grandson Lee; daughter Debi and her husband Wayne, grandson Tyler, his wife Gabby and great grandchildren Keira and Killian and grandson Colin, his wife Katie and great granddaughter twins Calia and Lila; son Clint and his wife Staci, grandson Andy, and great grandson Sean; son Paul and his wife Jane, granddaughter Chelsea, her husband Scott and great granddaughter Annayiah, grandson Kyle and his wife Madeline, granddaughter Audrey; son John and his wife Julie, grandson Dylan, granddaughter Claire, her husband Andrew and great grandson Conrad, grandson Ethan (deceased), grandson Alec; daughter Melissa and her husband Steve, granddaughter Rachael and her husband James, great grandchildren Henry, Keith, Luke, Katherine and Joshua, granddaughter Moey, her husband Aidan, great granddaughters Sadie and Violet; granddaughter Mackenzie and fiancé Brad; granddaughter Madison, her husband Aaron and great granddaughters Valerie and Lydia; grandson Thomas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at Alden-Waggoner, 5400 W Fairview Ave, Boise ID on Saturday, June 8th at 10:00AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Sabra's honor can be made to Boise Rescue Mission, 575 S 13th St, Boise, ID 83702; or the Idaho Food Bank, 3630 E. Commercial Court, Meridian, ID 83642.

RIP Aunt Sabra. One of my fondest memories was the time my family (Bruce Sr., Shirley, Fran, Mereth, and myself) visited you, Uncle Tom, and our cousins when you lived in Wisconsin (or at least the house you were in that summer was on a lake in Ootsberg!). My loving cousins tricked me into jumping off the end of a dock into the lake while they all ran to the end and stopped ... yes, a very cold awakening! You laughed at that as much as they did ... so I had to laugh too :-)

I had the honor of teaching in the room next to Sabra at Mary McPherson School in the early 80s. She was an inspiration and a mentor. I learned to be a better teacher from her. Sabra´s sense of humor made each day better and 40 years later I still tell a particular story about her chat with a student over inappropriate language! She made a positive difference in this world.
