I luckily had reestablished my friendship with Sally in the past year. We had grown up together in Caldwell and our mothers were good friends. This past summer I visited Sally for two days in May while traveling to the northwest. We drove around the area and went out to lunch twice. She remained independent even though she tired easily. Oh how her stories made me laugh! We discussed my moving to Oregon from Texas, which she strongly encouraged. I have just recently moved to Oregon because of our talks. We had plans once I got here and hate that we can´t do those now, but also so happy that we had the time we had. Sally continued to look forward instead of dwelling on her illness. She loved her family and really missed Phil. I received a text from Sally at 3:30 am in Texas on the 12th saying that she would not be leaving (the hospital). I responded immediately but did not hear from her again. It´s nice to know that she was thinking of and reaching out to her friends as her life was ending. I know she had family with her too, which would have been of great comfort to her.

The last time I saw Sally was in 1958 we were in a parade in Caldwell with Roy Rogers & Dale Evans. Life took us in different direction, until about 3 years ago, when she tracked me down thur Facebook. We had great times on the phone, so much laughter & talking about family history. Our shared interest in Great, Great Aunt Allie's interesting sounding doorbell in Caldwell. The week before she died, Sally had taken herself out to lunch, then to Lazy-boy to buy a recliner & all so to by paint for her family room. She was also thinking about recarpeting the house. Sally called me to share about her plans & we laugh so much we were actually giggling like schoolgirls. I have missed her since the last email came thru: I am in the hospital

All my deepest sympathies to Sally's family at the sad news of her passing. We had many wonderful times together writing, painting, creating and just sharing stories.
May she rest in peace.
