Shirley Ditty Obituary

Shirley Irene Ditty went off to see her Heavenly Father the evening of July 18, 2006. No services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel in Meridian. Born to Roy and Edna Watson in Huntington, Ore. on April 19, 1926. She spoke of her childhood with joy in her heart, including some of the pranks she and her older sister Beryl had thought up in their school days. She traveled by train to Baker to learn to play the piano, she also played the saxophone in the high school band. Her father worked at the train depot. Her older brother Clark Irwin and sister Agnes Haight are still living. Shirley met Merlin Ditty in high school in Huntington and then according to Daddy he loved her, and she was engaged to someone else. After the war and his service in England he wrote her one more time and found that she was still available, she gave permission for him to call on her again. My comment was, lucky for him and lucky for us. They shared 58 years together, all of them good. Dancing was one of the things they did weekly in their younger days. Shirley was raised in the Methodist Church in Huntington, Ore. where her mother taught Sunday School in that little white church. Later, Shirley was a charter member of the Amity United Methodist Church in Boise Idaho. My mother and dad were also instrumental in the bringing up of my two sons Tim and Brian Gibson. It may have challenged them, but they were always there for all of us. Shirley was a legal secretary by the time she was 19 in Vale Ore. From there she worked in Ontario in the Gallagher firm and spent over 30 years working for Elam and Burke in Boise, Idaho. She was a Cracker Jack secretary, I for one was always proud of her. In the past few years my mom and dad would take turns watching over each other as they moved into the senior years of their life. Their home in Meridian, in the retirement community was like a last reward for their lifestyle, great neighbors and friends, bingo, cards, and other social gatherings. It was a good life. Merlin passed on Oct. 30 2004, and like the Swans that mate for life Shirley missed the love of her life. May God bless and keep us all, until we meet again. Please read the Lord's Prayer in remembrance of your relationship with the Lord our God. Shirley Irene Ditty is survived by her brother and sister, her only child Sheila Pierce; grandsons Tim and Brian Gibson; great-grandchildren Jacob and Jordon. We love you Mama, We love you Grandma, you will always be with us.

Dear Sheila and family, Joe and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We enjoyed knowing your Mom and Dad while they lived at La Playa. Joe played cards with your Mom many times at the Clubhouse, and he enjoyed many games of pool with your Dad.

May God bless you and your family at this sad time. You are in our prayers. June and Joe

Sheila,

Our prayers are with you. Your Mom and Dad were like second parents as I was growing up.

Dear Sheila, Tim & Brian,

The obituary was a beautiful and loving tribute to your Mom. I did get your phone call last night but it was too late to call you back. I hope you received my email.

I will always remember fondly all the picnics and times we shared in Ontario. Only you know how close our parents were. Your Dad and my Dad were more like brothers than uncle and nephew.

I understand the great void this will put in your life and the rest of the family but there is some comfort in knowing that they are together in a better place now. (I wonder if Auntie Marie is telling everyone how it's done?)

Our love and condolences to all of you. You're in my prayers for the Lord's comfort.

Love,

Ginny
