Steve Connor Obituary

Stephen Craig Connor
December 30, 1955 - November 6, 2013
Our gifted and talented, brother, father and grandfather, Steve Connor, passed away on Wednesday Nov. 6th in N. Carolina where he was currently residing.
Steve was born December 30th in Idaho Falls, ID to Bus and Nadene Connor.
He was the oldest of five children. Steve grew up in the Boise area playing basketball throughout his pre-collegiate years.
He then went on to play for his dad, Coach Bus Connor, at Boise State University for four years where he held the all-time leading scoring record. He also holds the record for most assists, which he was very proud of.
Steve was selected to the all-conference team in the Big Sky Conference of his senior year.
His favorite moment was a last second shot to beat the University of Montana that put BSU in the Big Sky Conference tournament. BSU then beat Weber State in the finals of the tournament, which advanced them to the NCAA tournament for the first time in Boise State history. He was drafted at the end of his senior year to the Washington Bullets and was one of the last players cut. He then played overseas and finished his basketball career in Utah for a CBA team.
Steve was later inducted into the BSU hall of fame and is most likely now playing one-on-one in heaven with Pistol Pete Maravich, and winning.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Nadene. He is survived by three wonderful children, Candice, Casey, Nick, and two grandchildren. He is also survived by his father Bus Connor, brother's Tyler, Bret, Tommy and one sister Lisa Perrin.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held Sunday, November 17th 2013 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm at the home of his sister , Lisa and her husband Chris, 5042 W. Catalpa Dr. Boise Idaho 83703. Online guest book at Idahostatesman.com

Bus and family,
Very shocked as I came across Steve's obit. Nothing but great memories and respect for the Connor family. Bus was the one who opened up the door for my collegiate career. Played freshman bball with Bus. But mostly tennis. Everything I have can be traced back in some way to Bus encouraging me to go to BSU. Will always remember seeing the pride in Bus's face as Steve became the person and great example he was.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Steve's family. I knew Steve from grade school all the way through high school. Thinking of some of the things we did together as kids like ice hockey on the frozen canal, football, goofing off, having a crush on the same girl in 6th grade, puts a smile on my face.
Steve will be missed.

Our sincere condolences to the Connor family. I was recruited by Bus Connor in 1979 to Boise State and was introduced to the the entire Connor clan with the exception of Steve. This family was not only very inviting and provided comfort for players coming out of town, they also made them family. Lisa, Brett, Tyler and Tommy (was in High School) were just a great family. So, I expected Steve to be exactly like these other Connor kids and he was and more. Steve and I became friends when he returned back to Idaho 1981 with Candice and his wife Kim at the time.
The small slice of 2 years I had the opportunity to know Steve and his small family at the time was incredible. Thanks for the fond memories brother. Rest in Peace.

November 13, 2013

Dear Connor Family: My sincere condolences to each and every one of you. I remember first meeting Steve through my cousin Bud (Vern) about the time we were finishing grade school. Steve was open and kind-hearted then and remained that way through high school and on. And what a treat it was to see Steve play ball even when he was just a young kid ... wow!!! Unfortunately I don't think we ever ran into one another after HS that I recall. Rest in peace good man and friend, rest in peace.

November 13, 2013

I was sad to hear of Steve's passing as well. I will never forget watching NCAA tournament and following someone's comment of "nice 'D'", Nick asked Steve "...Dad what is 'D'" and Steve turned Nick on his lap, looked him in the eye and said "....son, 'D' is what takes so long to get the ball back and score." Laughter abounded! Words sometimes can't explain the feelings of loss.

November 13, 2013

I am so sad to hear of Steve's passing. I went to high school and later college with Steve. He was an amazing talent on the court and a really great guy off the court. He always had a big smile and never had an ego (although he had every right to), and I was proud to call him my friend. While I haven't seen him in years, I still think of him with fondness. RIP Steve, the world was a better place for having you in it.
