Gary and Wanda and family,
I just learned recently (1/10/10) that Steve went to be with Jesus. I considered it a real privilege to be Steve's pastor many years ago and enjoyed his ministry in music so much. I prayed for you today and those dear ones still grieving his passing.
My prayers are with you.

I was with Steve in the Clovis High School Chorale - he was always funny and had a great attitude about everything which he obviously continued as an adult. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Steve was an excellent manager and was a great role model for folks in the department to look up to. I will miss his sense of humor and advice when handling difficult security issues. His knowledge and experience was second to none.
I went on a ride along with Steve a couple of years ago when he was a reserve deputy. We where heading back to the police station when a high priced Mercedez Benz was traveling at a high rate of speed down I-84. For a couple of minutes Steve hit the gas pedal to catch up the vehicle with lights and siren; the vehicle pulled over. Turned out to be a college-aged student who had borrowed his father's car and was sweating getting into trouble. Steve could have written a very expensive ticket, but reviewed the situation and I know took pitty. A verbal warning to slow down was given, resulting in a very happy college student. This was the type of guy Steve was. He was truly genuine to people. It was an honor to know Steve and work for him.
I will also never forget how articulate Steve was in his job, as a reserve deputy, and other pursuits. What ever he got involved in, he did it 110%, and excelled. Not many people can achieve this. He may be gone to a better place, but will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with Steve's wife, kids, and family.

Steve was a proverbial light in the darkness, an inspiration to so many of us. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him. His positivity, strenth, endurance, and class served as an example to us all. He left a huge void and will be sorely missed. Our condolences go out to his family.

Gary and Wanda.......you may not remember us, but Steve and our son Jeffrey were friends in the 6th grade here in Clovis.....we knew from our first meeting that Steve was special and your family held the same values as ours. Jeff is now in Lubbock has a wife and three kids.....we called him when we saw the notice in the Clovis paper about Steve's death.....from all of us.....we wanted you to know some people remain in your heart always...so today we wanted you to know that our hearts are sharing your loss and we are lifting you in prayer. With special thoughts...Tom, Karen, and Jeffrey Dane
