Steven Petrie Obituary

Steve A. Petrie
1967 - 2016
On Monday, May 30, 2016, Heaven's door opened and an amazing man ran through, finishing his toughest race ever. After battling two forms of blood cancer, Steve A. Petrie agreed to stop making cancer look easy and allowed Jesus to bring him home.
Steve was born on August 17, 1967 to Cindy and David Petrie in Baker, Oregon. Steve grew up in Boise, ID and attended South Jr. High where he met and started dating his wife, Dana. Throughout high school, Steve played baseball and football and developed some of his closest friendships that continued throughout his life. After graduating from Borah High School, Steve enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. Steve and Dana were married during his enlistment in March 1988.
Upon his return from Germany, Steve followed in his father's footsteps and achieved his life long dream of becoming an Electrical Lineman at Idaho Power. Working for Idaho Power was not just a career to Steve. It was his home, his family. The relationships he developed there changed his life forever and his love for his friends at Idaho Power is simply indescribable.
On February 6, 1996, Jared was born and yet another of Steve's life long dreams of having a son was fulfilled. From before the time Jared could walk, he and Steve were constant companions. Steve taught Jared (and countless other children) his love of fishing, hunting, camping, backpacking and ultimately his love of running… and running, and running and running! Steve loved the running community and even when he wasn't able to run, he continued to volunteer to be close to Jared and "his people." Steve also became an Assistant Scout Master to support Jared's dream of becoming an Eagle Scout. Through Scouting, Steve influenced countless young men while he and Jared developing even more lifelong friendships.
And then Steve said, "I need a baby girl." On January 1, 2000, Jenna, Steve's "only Sunshine" was born. Steve also taught Jenna her love for the outdoors and we're quite sure passed on his goofiness to her. They, too, would go fishing, camping and hiking, but the best of all their times together were "Daddy-Jenna" days. A list was made (because Steve lived by lists) and the two would not stop until everything was checked off. Steve also spent many hours in the gym with Jenna supporting her love of volleyball. He was at every game and usually never sitting. Instead he spent his time shagging balls, setting up/taking down nets and entertaining everyone, young and old, in the process.
Steve's kids and Dana were his life, but everyone he loved was his family. With each activity he was involved in, including cancer treatment, a new family was created. We are forever grateful to Dr. Kreisle, Mallori Hooker, Dr. Smith and countless other nursing and administrative staff at St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute for loving and caring about Steve the way they did. Mallori recently told him, "Steve, you have left a mark wherever you have gone." Steve truly has left a little part of himself with each and every one of us. Therefore, we will all forever remain, Petrie Strong!
Steve is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dana Petrie; son, Jared Petrie; daughter, Jenna Petrie; brother, Justin (Lenora) Bickel; sister, Lisa (Matt) Osterman; step-brother, Dwight (Lucinda) Bickel; step-sister, Deborah (Gary) Little; father, David Petrie; grandmother, Connie Wallace along with countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and brother and sisters-in-law who all loved him so much. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Bickel; his step-father, Dwight Bickel, his grandfather, Arthur Petrie and his grandmother, Mabel Petrie.
Funeral services will be held at Summit Church on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. 10375 Overland Road, Boise, ID 83709. In honor of Steve, donations can be made to any of the following:

Sorry to discover so late of Steve's passing. I would have loved to connect and catch up with him. I served with him in Germany and he was a good friend during that time. He and I got out at the same time and we spent a lot of time talking about our plans for the future. He entertained me with stories of his wife having dinner with Reba Macentire and how his kid brother was a trick rider on a bicycle. His family was his passion. He also spoke of his goal of becoming a lineman. Not sure if anyone will read this but God bless you all in this journey of life.

Steve was a great guy. I'll always be grateful to him for taking the time to train me when I wanted to start into the design program.
