Thomas Leland Hoffman
1926 - 2015
Thomas Leland Hoffman was born August 7, 1926 to Franzel Rose Hoffman and Edward H. Hoffman in Boise, Idaho. He was the younger of a set of twins. Jim was older by a 1/2 hour. They would never let you forget that.
Tom died on April 14, 2015 at home with his wife and daughter at his side.
Tom went to St. Joseph's School, St. Teresa's and Boise High. Upon graduation, Tom and Jim both joined the Navy. Jim served overseas in the war and Tom was sent to Utah as brothers could not serve overseas together.
Following the war, Tom was at Boise Jr. College for 2 years. He was employed at White Hardware and CC Anderson before beginning a sales career with Blake Moffet and Towne. He later went to work at Dixon Paper Company as the General Manager. Upon retiring, he spent 5 years volunteering at St. Lukes Hospital and then worked at Ace Hardware, just for fun. He loved to be busy and help others.
While at Boise Junior College, he met Agnes, who was a student nurse at St. Alphonsus Hospital. They married after her graduation in Rupert, Idaho in 1948. Tom was always energetic, happy and could be caught whistling as he entered a room.
He was the Cub Scout Master at St. Mary's where he enjoyed working with his 2 older boys, Eric and Jon, along with their friends. He enjoyed the time spent in McCall with the troop for two weeks a year. He was also involved with the St. Mary's PTA and as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Johns. He belonged to the Kiwanis, Sales and Marketing Association, Bishop Kelly Booster Club and Crane Creek Country Club.
He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hong Kong, Hawaii and Mexico. He and Agnes loved skiing, tennis, walking and entertaining their friends. Sun Valley was a very special time for him to go. He was also quite a handyman as was his twin brother Jim. He taught his sons, including Ted, how to fix anything. Tom was also a wonderful gourmet cook... He loved to bake bread from scratch.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Franzel and Ed Hoffman; twin baby sisters; his older brother, Edward, and his identical twin brother Jim, and Jim's wife, Iris. Tom is survived by his wife, Agnes; children, Dr. Eric Hoffman, Jon Hoffman (Valerie), Gretchen Houston (Tom), Ted Hoffman (Lou); grandchildren, Rickie Lee, Zeb, Jennifer, Gabe; and great-grandchildren, Clair, Ella, Fawn, Mica and Christian.
To all that knew this man he made us smile and laugh. He will be truly missed.
A special thank you to Zeb Hoffman, Tom's grandson. He provided comfort and peace to Tom in his final days. Days before Tom passed, he told Zed that he did a fine job and gave him the thumbs up.
A private family service will be held today. We will have a celebration of his life in August on his birthday.
