Tom Ginther Obituary

Tom Ginther
March 28, 1938 - April 3, 2021
Meridian, Idaho -
Thomas Evans Ginther was reunited with his wife of 51 years, Sharon, and his son Brad on April 3, 2021. He was born in Soda Springs, ID on March 28, 1938 to Milton and Verna Ginther. He was raised in Weiser, ID. where he made many lifelong friends. After graduating from Weiser High School in 1956 he served in the U.S. Airforce in Munich and Berlin, Germany from 1956-1960.
When he returned state side, he met and pursued Sharon Fowler up until the time she agreed to marry him. They tied the knot on August 6, 1961. Tom and Sharon raised their daughter Kara and son Brad in Boise. The family spent many weekends camping and fishing with family and friends.
Tom had a tremendous work ethic. He worked in the timber and construction industry before taking a job with Morrison Knutson in the Fabrication Railroad Division. He was respected by his coworkers and was the Operating Engineers Union representative for 12 of the 27 years he worked there. Tom had a side gig putting in sprinkler systems. Even though he retired from MK in 1999 he was by no means "retired." He continued his sprinkler business and enjoyed getting to know his customers many of whom remained loyal for over 30 years.
Tom lived by the motto, "There's a place for everything and everything in its place". He never could figure out why his two kids did not inherit an understanding of what this meant. He took great pride in keeping his yard and home in tip top shape. Tom was always willing to lend a hand and developed lasting friendships with many of his neighbors.
Often Tom could be found carrying a fishing pole, rifle, or tool. He was a true Idahoan and spent a great deal of time outdoors fishing, hunting, and camping. He looked forward to the annual elk and deer hunt with his son and good friends as well as his fishing trips to Canada and Alaska. Although he loved the great outdoors it did not compare to the love he felt for his family.
Tom is survived by his daughter Kara Trumbo (Tim), granddaughters Sydney, Kylie, Ali; grandsons Kayden, Kitch, Brody, daughter-in-law Suzette, great-grandchildren Ayden and Addison, sisters Raa (Mel) Jonely and Jo Ann (Gary) Rose, numerous nieces and nephews, and his 4-legged companion, Bentley. He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon, son Brad, his parents, stepdad Robert Madill, brother R.J. Madill and nephew Michael Rose.
Our family would like to express our tremendous gratitude to the neighbors who displayed their unending compassion by giving him meals, helping him around the house, grocery shopping. etc. these last few years. There are no words to express what your selfless acts mean to us. We would also like to thank the staff at Treasure Valley Hospice, especially Kris for their kindness and support.
A celebration of his life and reception, will be held at Boise Funeral Home, (8209 Fairview Boise Ph 208-322-3999) on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude's, Idaho Fish and Game Hunter Education, American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.

I've known Tom for over twenty years from him shopping at my family owned sprinkler store. He was by far one of my favorite customers and I took such joy in calling him for our annual luncheons. He was always such a joy and his work ethic proved amazing over the years; his last visit to pick up parts was not even that long ago. He truly amazed me and I'm going to miss him so very much.
I'm so sorry for the loss.
