Vernon was born on December 4, 1935 in Enid, Oklahoma, to Vernon L. Goltry, Jr. and Mildred (Francisco) Goltry. Bud was raised in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Enid High School. He had decided to study medicine at an early age and went on to college at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. After graduation he went on to Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree. He did his internship at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City and General Surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City. He entered the University of Iowa, Hospitals and Clinics to complete his specialty training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. He completed his residency as Chief of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Irwin Army Hospital, Fort Riley, Kansas. He then received his Board Certification in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.
In 1969 he moved with his wife, Marilyn, and four children to Boise, Idaho, to begin his solo private practice. He and his second wife, Claudia, added two more children to his life. In 2000 at the age of 65, he slowed his workload to three or four days a week.
He owned and operated a solo specialty medical practice and said he would never retire. At 85, with his skills intact, he was still taking care of patients and performing surgeries until he fell ill on August 16th and succumbed to his illness on August 24th. He served the people of The Treasure Valley, and all of Idaho, for 52 years, performing surgeries at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, and St Luke's Meridian Medical Center
He was a life member of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, Past President, and served on the Board of Directors for ten plus years.
Vernon married Sharon Elaine (Maas) Sherwood, on September 29, 2006 in Boise, Idaho.
In his younger years his hobbies were mostly outdoors. He loved bird hunting, fishing, hiking, spending time alone in nature, and raising his children. He was adamant about his children's education, helping them all get through college. He taught his youngest two children and two grandchildren to read with the AlphaPhonics method when they were five or six, and they all benefited from that experience.
After 1972, his interests changed dramatically, and he fell in Love with the Grace of Jesus Christ. He left organized religion and became a truth seeker, reading everything he felt impressed to read about God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ. He loved to share the knowledge he felt God gave him, and those who listened have been blessed.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Goltry; his sister, Letty (Goltry) Barnes, Boise; six children and two step children - Carrie Lynn (Goltry) Washington; Michael Winfield Goltry, Arizona; Lettie Kirk, Idaho; Brian Winfield Goltry, Idaho; John Claude Goltry, Kentucky; Sara Rose (Goltry) Kuritis, Idaho; Angela Christina (Root) White, California; and Richard Gene Victory, Arizona; and eight grandchildren: Nicholas Rorem, Mitchell Rorem, Gwyn Goltry, Sydney Goltry, Jack Goltry, Louisa Goltry, Charlile Moulton, and Frannie Moulton.
He was preceded in death by Parents, Mildred and Vernon Goltry, and brother-in-law, Jim Barnes.

While living in Idaho Bud Goltry was my very best friend and doctor and we used to meet every Saturday morning at a breakfast cafe and to have the most enlightening, sometimes funny discussions about medicine, history, current events, the Bible, esoteric subjects and History. He was and still is the most fascinating human being I've ever met this time around. I used to compliment him on his vast personal book library as the most amazing private collection of wisdom and information I've ever seen in a home. I'll leave you with this: while speaking with a good lifelong friend who is extremely intuitive one day on the phone, just before hanging up she said "oh wait, there is a gentleman here presenting himself as a doctor with a white coat on and stethascope around his neck who want s me to tell you "If you think he had a great library there, you ought to see what he has here!!!" And it was good to hear from him again. My guess is he's doing fine.

Wonderful old style doctor. Insisted on getting my ears tested before prescribing. Saved me from handicapping menier's disease. Took his time to listen to me.

Dr. Goltry improved my life experience with nose surgery around 2010. I asked if the certificates on the wall were his father's as he looked so young.

I was a patient of Dr Goltry´s in 1978. I was having ear troubles again a couple years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find him still in practice. He still remembered me. He will forever be remembered in my mind and heart. He was truly the best doctor and kindhearted man of God. I will sorely miss him.
