My memories of Uncle VA go back to my earliest days, visiting him and his family during the big holidays, eating Charlene's great cooking in their farmhouse on Eagle Road. I remember the feeling of their home and the work ethic that was evident all around. I remember a card player, a sharp mind, and a guy who was interesting partly because his austere presence inspired a sort of discipline and competence. I remember drinking lime-ade, I remember mowing his lawn, and the time he took Ben and me fishing. He was a tough and decent man and I will miss him.
