Virginia Butler Obituary

Virginia 'Gina' L. Butler
June 4, 1930 - October 10, 2014
Virginia Butler died peacefully on October 10, 2014. Gina was born June 4, 1930, in Boise, ID, where she was raised and graduated from Boise High School. She attended one year at Boise Junior College. With the exception of the few years she spent with her first husband, Dave Sarvis, and their young family in Billings and Helena, MT, she made Boise her home. She loved the 'City of Trees.' Gina enjoyed people. She was social, a stellar listener, a wise advisor and a consummate volunteer. Each of these personal strengths fulfilled her 'gift of giving' and touched many lives in a positive way. As a young woman, she was involved in the Jaycees, and she made a lifelong commitment to her 'Birthday Club.' The Head Start Program, myriad Redeemer Lutheran Church projects and the Villas at River Place community outreach efforts were mainstays in her volunteer life. Gina was a die-hard sports fan. From her youth, and throughout her life, she was fascinated with 'the game.' All sports were equally enjoyed. She expected sportsman-like behavior and players who excelled academically, as well as athletically. She and her late-husband, Keith Butler, were loyal BSU fans. She loved children and nothing pleased her more than spending time talking with one of her grandchildren or great grandchildren. They were truly her delight! Throughout their marriage, she and Keith enjoyed annual trips to Cannon Beach, OR, and Seattle, WA. They enjoyed gardening, particularly manicuring their beloved rose bushes. Gina moved to the Villas at River Place in the spring of 2012 and quickly established what she referred to as her "Villas Family," which indeed they were. She loved her family and her friends. They were her world. Throughout her life, she lived and loved graciously. She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith Butler and her daughter, Pam Sarvis. She is survived by her sister Helen Olson, brother Irwin Caufield, step-son David Butler, son Mike Sarvis, daughters Kim Bakarani and Cathy Lyman, grandsons Alexandre' Bakarani, David Butler and Austin Collins, granddaughters Nicolette Butler, Gretchen Nelson and Kresta Smout and two great grandsons Bryce and Trey Nelson. Preparation for burial is under the direction of Aldan-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2920 Cassia Street, on Thursday, October 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by a reception at Redeemer. A family graveside committal will take place at Dry Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
