My Aunt Viv was the nicest lady I knew! I do not remember once in my whole life that she ever had anything but kind or humorous words for me. I along with my daughters will miss her terribly. We were lucky enough to have her come stay with us a few times and the amazing story is that all these hummingbirds would appear upon her arrival...(which never came around before or after her visit). I really think they followed her from Juniper Mountain, where she used to feed them her homemade nectar! To this day, whenever we see one of these fierce litle birds-we think of Aunt Viv, as she was so much like them-small in stature-but oh so strong! John Stewart sang a song called "The Razor Backed Woman" which pretty much summed up her amazing character.
From the time I was little, I would go stay with her, Frank, Lisa and Las and there would always be some great story that would come out of the visit. One I recall, because she was such a great cook (and she could make a meal out of anything for as many people as there were at her table on any given night) was when me and a family friend-who had been out at the ranch fishing, had to go get milk from a neighboring ranch...Well, for some reason, all they had to give it to us in was a large & open tin bowl. I don't know if you have been on the 'road to the ranch' but it is a bumpy one to say the least...Anyway, we carried that pan all the way back to the Circle Bar, even getting out to walk across wash-outs, all so she would have the milk to make her famous Basque custard. She really laughed every time that story was retold because she could not figure out why we had not just stopped and dumped the milk out...it was still the best custard I ever ate!!!
Aunt Viv-we will miss-but you will always be with us---Love Roger
