William Fraser Obituary

William "Bill" Johnson Fraser

May 3, 1948 - February 4, 2025

Boise, Idaho - William (Bill) Fraser passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025. Born and raised in Boise, he was a proud fourth-generation Idahoan whose warmth, kindness, and humility touched the lives of many.

Bill's early years were marked by a passion for sports, which he pursued at Fountain Valley High School in Colorado Springs. He formed friendships there that lasted a lifetime.

His academic journey took him to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, where he continued to cultivate his love for adventure and the outdoors. A skilled skier, Bill cherished his time in Sun Valley, where he found both joy and camaraderie on the slopes.

After completing his education, Bill returned to Boise, where he built a successful career as a contractor. His work left a lasting mark on the community he loved. Upon retirement, he embraced his passion for wine, founding Fraser Vineyard. With dedication and craftsmanship, he produced many award-winning wines, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and artistry.

Bill was more than his accomplishments; he was a gentleman, a loyal friend, and a man of quiet generosity. His kindness and humility endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving partner, Terry Stoltz; his sister, Anne Brown (Steve); his nephews, Chris Brown (Shaina Kennedy) and Mike Brown; and his grand-nephew, Liam Brown.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held at a future date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wood River Land Trust in Bill's name.

After I graduated from college, I met Bill at the Miners Exchange in Idaho City and we started dating. He took me on many adventures including camping in the White Clouds on New Year´s Eve with Pat McMurray. We also cross country skied into Silver City staying at the old run down hotel. We had lots of fun at the house he shared with Pat including indulging in lobsters flown I. From the east coast on New Year´s Eve. The summer I met Bill I had a spinal fusion and couldn´t sit down for six weeks. I fondly remember he and Pat taking me to see Paper Moon at the Egyptian. They talked the staff there into putting a chaise lounge in the aisle so I could watch the movie. I have many fond memories of those days together. Bill was a lovely man who took me on many outdoor adventures I´d never do on my own. My condolences to his dear sister Anne and his family and to his partner Terri. We lost a good one.

We were so sorry and saddened to hear of our friend, Bill. We shared many wonderful times with him on the ski slopes here and abroad. Always the gentleman, with the gift of making one at ease in his quiet way and always eager to join you for a run down the ski slope. We will miss him. Love and prayers to all at this very sad time. We shared many fun days Bill on the slopes of Sun Valley, as well as fun times over a dinner or a glass of wine. He was always a gentleman and fun to spend time with. He was also a friend in time of need if he could help. He will be missed. God's speed to you, dear Bill, as you enjoy the heavenly untracked powder where you now reside...until we meet again to make some turns. RIP.

Dear Anne,
Dick and I moved into his parents home about the same time as Bill moved into your family home. It kept the Frasier-Talboy neighbor connection going for another generation.
Bill was a great neighbor. I remember when he helped carry in our new stove and oven. It was large and the two delivery men welcomed Bill´s assistance. He was a good person! We were sorry when he moved.
Dick joins me in extending sympathy for your loss.
Sincerely,
Lori Talboy

Living next door to Bill for 25 years in Sun Valley was a gift. He was a kind and gracious man. Even when daughter Ashley walked into his house and snuggled up in his sleeping bag. We laughed about that for years, it was a great memory.

Steve and Ann-
I would see Bill in my few visits to Boise; on the greenbelt, Starbucks, just around. Warm and friendly; sharing news. His skill in building I knew all about and his economics study at Dartmouth as well. I remember his crash on a sled at Hillcrest; and assume now that it was his first joint injury. Tears in my eyes for Billy and for you. What a great man.

Bill was classmate of mine at East Junior High in the early 60's. He was the same great guy then as he was every time our paths crossed through the years. So humble ! Such a great sense of humor - - just fun to be around.

He was quite the runner and cyclist too. It seemed like I saw him running with his long strides around downtown practically everyday back in the 80's. It was nothing for him to hop on his bicycle too and cruise up to Bogus and back. He was a very fit athlete .

I'm going to miss not bumping into Bill around town.

My condolences to the family.

In 1971, my husband and I moved to Boise from states back east. We discovered ski touring and joined a small band of skiers that would pool resources and go on ski adventures to places like Silver City, Galena, Idaho City, all comparatively rustic back then. Bill was a member of the group, and I was so impressed by his skill on those skinny skis. We reconnected when he moved into the condo by the river and we would chat briefly when he was on his deck and I was walking my dog on the Greenbelt. A wonderful man, and the world shall be the lesser without him. My condolences to his family and closer friends.

Dear Anne and family,
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Bill was my first "crush" during the summer 1964 when he took me to a dance in downtown McCall. He left for college and our paths didn't cross again, but I always remembered how handsome, kind and fun he was to be with... a true gentleman.
My thoughts are with you all,
your WWBay neighbor,

Bill was a wonderful friend, and he lived and loved every day. He had the best laugh and will be so missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him. We are saddened that his time with Terry was so brief because she brought much joy to his life as he did to hers.

We are heartbroken!! Bill V. says, "Bill Frazier was the best skier I ever skied with." But Bill didn't mind waiting for the rest of us. He certainly appreciated fine wines (and made some great ones of his own under the Frazier Vineyards label)--and was generous and kind, and a wonderful human being. So sad and hard to believe.
