William Reed Obituary

William W. Reed passed away at his home in Boise on Dec. 11, 2006. Memorial services were held for the family on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Cloverdale Funeral Home with Pastor Ralph Lawrence from the Cathedral of the Rockies, First United Methodist Church, presiding. Bill was born May 4, 1921 in Nampa, Idaho, the son of Clayton C. and Ruth Elizabeth Reed. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1939. He attended the College of Idaho for two years where he obtained his pilot license and then transferred to the University of Idaho in 1941. In 1942 Bill left school joining the war effort by flying Navy Transports from Seattle to the Aleutian Islands for Pan American Airlines which was under the direction of the US Navy during World War II. After the war he continued to fly for Pan America and was stationed in Rio de Janeiro. On June 11, 1947 he married Jacqueline Joan Kincaid. After living in Miami and New York City they returned to Nampa where their sons Steve and Jeff were born. Bill spent a short time selling cars, then insurance until going to work with Idaho First National Bank in 1950. Banking moved his family to Wallace, Sandpoint and eventually Moscow where their third son Rick was born in 1963. In 1967 he moved to Boise where he took a job with the newly formed Commercial State Bank. In 1968, Bill resigned from Commercial State Bank to begin his new career in the fast food franchise business. He opened his first Taco Time Restaurant in Nampa in 1968. Shortly after this he opened his second restaurant in Caldwell and his third restaurant on Fairview Ave in Boise. He eventually ended up with four restaurants which he sold to his son Steve in 1986. In 1978 he started Fresca Mexican Foods, a manufacturer of flour and corn tortillas. Fresca had grown into an international manufacturer of restaurant quality foods, shipping containers of its products to all corners of the world. He sold Fresca foods in 1991 and began a short lived retirement. In 1992 he got back in the business arena with his son Rick, where the two of them opened the first Gold's Gym franchise in Boise. They sold the Gym business in 1997 at which time he truly retired. He enjoyed his retirement spending summers at the cabin in Donnelly and the winters in Palm Desert with son Rick. William is survived by his wife Jackie, sons Steve and Jeff (Peggy) of Boise and Rick of Indio, California as well as six grandchildren; Megan (Spencer) Shaw, Ben (Aisha) Reed, Andrew (Angela) Reed, Patty (C.P.) Shannon, Sam, Annie, eight great-grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews.

Dear Jackie and family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had many conversations with Bill in regards to the Gold's Gym rent payments, etc. I work in their accounting department and was sad to hear that it was sold and even more sad to hear that he was no longer with us. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

What wonderful warm memories fill my mind! Bill and Jackie were such a part of our Silverton family during the Wallace days! I babysat Steve and Jeff - (It's disturbing somehow to find the kids I babysat are now grandparents!)

I remember so well the dinners back and forth and the salad dressing competitions between my Dad and Jackie! Also, we helped celebrate Rick's first birthday in Moscow.

Good friends and good times. Know, Jackie and family, that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Bill was a great guy and I am the better for having known him.

Dear Jeff, Peggy, and family,
We may live in Portland, but we still keep up with the goings on in Boise. We were so sorry to hear of your dad's passing, Jeff, and we hope the pain of losing him will pass and you will be left with really wonderful memories.
