Edward Slesnick Obituary

Edward (Eddie) Brian Slesnick
age 64, passed away peacefully on Nov. 20, 2016 after a four year heroic battle with prostate cancer. Eddie grew up in Canton, was a graduate of Glenwood High School, a lifetime member of Temple Israel, and a recent member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue. His formal education continued at The Ohio State University and upon graduation he entered the family business of Slesnick, Iron & Metal. Eddie was very passionate about the business and loved working with his family. If you asked him, he started working there at 8 years old. Eddie took the reigns as President after his beloved father passed away. He took the business to a new level with his firm guidance and the superb technologies he implemented.
Eddie had two very distinct sides to him. He was either very serious or very youthful. Always with a story or something to make you laugh, his boundless energy was contagious. He could light up a room just by his presence. Eddie's love for his family was endless. His thoughts, comments or suggestions were never in short supply. All he asked out of life was for his family to be happy, healthy, and productive. He gave back to his community with his quiet acts of kindness to anyone in need. He loved golfing with the “geezers,” boating with his family, and talking about his beloved scrapyard. He will be forever in the hearts and souls of those that loved him.
Eddie is preceded in death by his beloved father, Stanley. He is survived by his mother, Marlene Slesnick; his brothers, Jeff Slesnick and Terry Wilmink; his wife of 20 years, Elizabeth; his five children, Stephen, Jonathan, Andrew (Nicole), Rachel and Isabel Slesnick; his best friend, Rick (Kris) Taylor, and countless relatives, friends, colleagues, employees, and acquaintances.
A special thanks to Eddie's doctors and nurses who helped him in his fight against prostate cancer: Dr. Shruti Trehan of Aultman Cancer Center; Dr. Howard Scher and Christine Liebertz of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; and Dr. Robert Stein of the Cleveland Clinic. The family also wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Aultman Compassionate Care Center where Eddie was made comfortable during his last days.
A private memorial service was held on Nov. 23 at Beit Ha'am. Rabbi John Spitzer and Cantor Bruce Braun officiated the service and interment. Contributions in Eddie's memory are suggested to Aultman Cancer Center, 2600 Sixth Street SW, Canton, Ohio 44710.

Although it has been some time since we, "I" lost both my client and friend Eddie, I often, quite often think about him. We, I believe had a great friendship and he always enjoyed my story telling, either through kindness or he actually enjoyed them. We use to laugh that although our last names were different, we can spell each others with the same letters. God Bless Eddie and his family, I know like myself we think of him often, miss him and thank him.

I did not have the opportunity to really get to KNOW Eddie because he was the older brother. So here I am 2,000 miles away in Southern CA and sending my sympathy to Eddie's entire family and friends who he touched on his journey and theirs. One thing I can convey, a result of my direct experience. Whenever I did see Eddie, either at their home or at Arrowhead CC or at Temple Israel or the JCC, Eddie's grace and warmhearted nature left an indelible good impression. This I feel with complete certainty as my experience going back decades. So Eddie is a wonderful inspiration in that memories are imbued in those random little acts of kindness and that I should always be of good positive spirit.

To my good friend, I will miss you very much. Our business calls were never about business, but about my family and Liz and the twinkies(twins) and Eddie's boys. To Liz and the family, my heart, prayers and thoughts are with you.
