Jay Jackson Obituary

Jay Norman
Jackson
passed at his own home peacefully from this life and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Nov. 22, 2011, after a long battle with Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease producing inflammation and an overproduction of collagen. Jay was born Mar.10, 1958 in Massillon, Ohio.
He is survived by loving parents, Norm and Joanne Jackson of Massillon; brothers, Tom and Sherrie Jackson of North Canton, Sam and Fran Jackson of Dalton, Scott Jackson of Put-In -Bay and Keystone, Colo.; sister, Chris and Mike Vellucci of Massillon; nieces and nephews, Erica, Derek, Elle and Samantha Jackson, Aimee, Zach and great-niece, Frances Hamity, John, Leah and Joey Jackson, Jake, Seth and Michael Vellucci; and his girl and best friend, the former Debbie Kring of Massillon.
Jay graduated from Massillon St. Mary's Grade School and Central Catholic High School. In 1975, he was co-captain of Central's League Champion Football Team and Division I All County Linebacker. He later attended and played football for Baldwin Wallace College. After college, Jay entered the transportation field, most recently capped off a 20-year career with Carney- McNicholas, formerly of North Canton, and now located in Lorain, Ohio. He loved his Sales and Marketing position and the people with whom he worked. Most importantly, he loved the dear Lord, his parents, family and friends. Jay was a people person and loved life to the fullest. His favorite time was spent at house parties with family and friends. And, a close second was vacations at or near the beach. A personal message from Jay: "Did I mention that an ice cold beer was a part of this good life? Believe you me, it's no fun if you don't have someone to share your good times with. I was lucky because I always did. I can't imagine better people than those who have surrounded me. With the dear Lord's and Jesus help, I have been allowed to go Full Go and to Lead a Great Life. A special thanks to all that have helped me during my illness. That includes the wonderful doctors, nurses and medical personnel that have kept me alive. And to my Family and Friends that gave me the will to survive, and the ability to Love Life. Now I can say for the last time that I'd Like to Stay but I've Got to Go. Throttle Down! God Bless You All... Love, Jay."
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Scleroderma Research Foundation, 220 Montgomery St., San Francisco, CA. 94104 or Salvation Army, 420 Market Ave. S, Canton, Ohio 44702. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Dec. 3, 2011 at 12 Noon at St. Mary's Church in Massillon, a wake immediately following at 1 p.m. at the K of C Hall on Cherry Street in Massillon. All Family and Friends are welcome. Please leave condolences at Heitger.com

Jay, you must have nudged me from Heaven about a year after you passed over. I met you in Indianapolis many years ago, and had the chance to meet your wonderful family in Ohio shortly after that. I can tell Life was kind to you by the many friends who have signed your guest book. You always had such a magnetic "larger than life" personality! I am so very sorry to hear of the illness that took you from this life ... but from what I know of Heaven, it must be one awesome party .... hope they have cigars for you! Rest well dear Jay with the beautiful green eyes ...

Jay was a class act for our CCHS class of 76. His kindness to everyone will be what I remember most, not to mention the many laughs. We're proud to have called him our friend. Our deepest sympathy to all his family & friends.

Jay, Just learned of your passing. I can remember you as the fierce middle linebacker for the Central Catholic Crusaders. God I loved to watch how you hit guys twice your size. You then took your heart and passion and we shared several years in the Moving & Storage business. You would "always come back with the order".... I know what your family meant to you, especially "Norm" and your older Brother, Tom. Wish we could have had one more cigar together. You're in a great place, and we'll think of you and smile always.

Well done Jay!!
Respectfully submitted by a proud member of the classes of Massillon St. Mary's 1974 and Canton Central Catholic 1978.

Jay will be miss by all of us at TJ Dillon's Pub. We always enjoyed his friendly face never knowing which beer he would choose to drink,,,but it was always the best beer he had ever had. The bar always lit up when Jay entered the building. He was even captain of our bar to bar challenge in softball. What a great guy he was. Now he is up with Ralph and Jason forming his happy hour waiting for all of us to join them. Heaven will never be the same. God Bless you Jay. Our deepest sympathy to all the Jackson Family.

Jay was the heart and soul of that '75 Championship team. He was small of stature, but larger than life. When Jay hit you, you felt the roots of your teeth shake. But every bit as fierce as those hits, was the depth of his love for his friends and family. Jay inspired me back then, and continues to inspire me to this day, and will forever. I am so blessed to have been able to visit Jay and Debbie last month. God Bless you all, and please accept my condolences.

The Jackson's were always an extension of the Buttermore family, and that was primarily due to our wonderful "Uncle" Jay. As my dad's best buddy, he watched my sisters and I grow up and treated us like gold, always opening his house and heart to us all. Uncle Jay, you will be missed by many, but forgotten by none. Your warmth will be forever felt, even from heaven. We will always love you!

I was so sad to hear of Jay's passing, but I'm sure he is in Heaven fishing with Norm. My condolences to his family and friends. It is not how long one lives that is important, but the quality of one's life. Jay gave so much love and pleasure to others. What a great guy!

It has been a long time since I have ran into to Jay ...... lots of good memories from my childhood as he used to jam in our basement. Being the little sister of the drummer of the band, he always made time to say hey and talk to me. Always had that wonderful smile that was contagious to others. Jay was an unique and talented individual in so many ways!!!!! God will protect and keep him. With heartfelt sympathy to the Jackson Family!

Jay there are people in life who stay with you forever whether or not you talk for years. You are one of those guys my brother. So many of us grew up tight knit and formed life long bonds in Massillon. I have an old saying that you can leave Massillon but Massillon never leaves you. I am so glad you made that trip to Texas years back. We had way too much fun that trip. We were all blessed to have spent that time together fishing, golfing, lying, euchure and then some more lying! Just in talking to Snelly yesterday the memories flooded back and we talked for 45-minutes. Some of the Ohio boys here in Texas are going to the Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day. You are our honorary guest my brother and for one day at least a Cowboys fan. We all love each other like brothers and we've lost a brother. Only for now though. As Dave and all of us have discussed you are home free. We long to be with you and we will seen you when we see you. For now will end with:

1 Cor. 15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"

There is no sting and Jesus conquered death once and for all on the cross. Jay has transitioned from the mortal to the immortal. We thank God for that. Prayers and much love to all the family and friends....
