Michael Anthony Florea, 84, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2026, in
Hollywood, Florida. Born on September 8, 1941, in
Canton, Ohio, Michael lived a life full of love, service, and unwavering devotion to his family, friends, faith, and community.
Michael graduated from Central Catholic High School in
Canton, Ohio in 1959 and went on to attend Kent State University until 1961. He later earned an AA Degree in Political Science from the University of Miami in 1966.
From 1967 until 2006, Michael had a successful career in Business Sales. He was also a Co-Owner of Pictures Unlimited and Owner of Nico's Pizzeria in
Hollywood, Florida between 1984-1988.
Michael's life was deeply rooted in faith. Born and raised Roman Catholic, he received many of his sacraments at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in
Canton, Ohio. He married Denise Florea in 1963 at Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church in Palm Beach, Florida. In 1969, they began their lifelong commitment to Nativity Catholic Church in Hollywood. There, Michael became an integral part of parish life-joining the Christian Family Movement (CFM), teaching Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes to public high school juniors, and helping launch a Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) group.
His devotion to youth ministry was profound. As an adult advisor and boys' basketball coach for CYO, he gave generously of his time driving the bus, chaperoning events, and offering guidance and encouragement to countless young people. His presence was a constant source of support at retreats and youth gatherings. Approachable and compassionate, Michael became a trusted mentor within the parish community.
He also contributed musically as part of Nativity's Sunday morning musical group-playing snare drum and singing during the 10:30am Masses-where many fondly referred to him as "the tall, good looking man". A member of the Nativity Men's Club, he even started their parish softball team.
Outside of church life, Michael was known for his vibrant personality and love for social gatherings. Affectionately called "The Mayor" by his children, he thrived at parties, weddings, and special events-always ready with a warm smile, some great dance moves, or a hearty laugh. He also cherished get-togethers and traveling with his wife Denise and their long-time, close-knit circle of friends.
A passionate sports fan, Michael rooted enthusiastically for the Miami Hurricanes and Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed playing and watching golf and had a fondness for playing the slots at the casino. But above all else, Michael loved spending time with his family. He never missed an athletic game, milestone event, or special occasion for his children or grandchildren-and often attended those of friends' families as well.
Michael was affectionately known as "Big Mike" to many of his friends, "My Michael" to his mother Mary, and "PopPop" to his beloved grandchildren. He was a loving son to George and Mary Florea; a devoted brother to his youngest sister Annette Florea; and is predeceased by his sister Paula Ross and brother Georgie Florea.
He leaves behind his cherished wife Denise Florea; sons Michael J. Florea; Christopher J. Florea (Veronika); Nicholas P. Florea (Georgia); daughter Monique D. Bean (Steve); grandchildren Jessica, CJ, Brock, Nicky, Brianna, and Romeo; as well as many others, whose lives were touched by his kindness and love.
Michael's legacy is one that lives on through every life he touched. May his memory forever be a blessing and bring comfort to those who knew him, and continue to inspire acts of love and service in his name.
A Funeral Mass will be held on March 6, 2026, at 04:00 PM at Nativity Catholic Church (5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood) to honor his life of faith, love, and dedication.
Arrangements entrusted to Boyd Panciera Family Funeral Care.
