Paul Haley Obituary

Paul E. (Gene) Haley 1930-2016
86, of North Canton, passed away on Feb. 7, 2016 after battling cancer for over 24 years. Paul died peacefully on his 86th birthday and, more importantly to him, their 62nd wedding anniversary, while holding the hand of his loving wife. He spent his last several days surrounded by his loved ones in the care of Mercy Hospice.
A long-time parishioner, Eucharistic minister and mass server of St. Paul's parish, Paul was born in Sioux City, Iowa on Feb. 7, 1930. He graduated from Trinity High School in Sioux City and shortly after graduation, entered the Army in August 1948. He achieved the rank of sergeant first class and served nearly four years in Hawaii and Tokyo. Upon leaving the service he started his 40 year successful career with Sears, Roebuck and Company as a credit manager in numerous locations throughout the Midwest. His final 10 years before retirement were spent as Sears credit central manager in Middleburg Heights. They enjoyed traveling and cruising as often as possible, golf, cards, household projects or just working in the yard. He especially enjoyed shelling walks on the beach during their years in Florida and spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughters.
Paul is survived by his wife Marge, daughters Diane (Thomas) Stock of Westerville, Ohio, Deborah Russo of North Canton, grandchildren Jonathon (RaeAnne) Stock of Westlake, Aaron (Angela) Stock of Loveland, Andrew (Emily) Stock of Columbus, Patrick Stock and fiancé Kaitlin Pethtel of Cincinnati, Nicholas (Cara) Russo of Columbus and Ashley (Johnny) Schaffner of Canton, great-granddaughters Laura, Elyse, Vanessa, Raffaella and Josephine, sisters Marie Haley of Sioux City, Iowa and Pauline (Emery) Lacroix of Omaha, Neb., brother and sister-in-law Gene and Nancy Stanek, sisters-in-law Marge and Patty Stanek and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul is preceded in death by parents Edward and Wilma Haley, brothers Edward Jr. and Wayne Haley, mother-in- law Antoinette Stanek, and brothers-in-law Joe and Bob Stanek.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, North Canton from 9-10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10a.m. with the Monsignor James A. Clarke as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Canton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Paul's Building Fund or Wishes Can Happen, 1310 N. Main St., North Canton, Ohio 44720. The family wishes to thank his caregivers at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for their compassionate care. Marge, Debbie & Diane,
So sorry for your loss, and Heavens gain. Gene was always so good to the Stanek family, and I want to express our appreciation. Seems as if he was successful at everything he did, from being a great Husband, raising a great family and living his life with class. He was one of a kind, and will be missed. Lent is about rebirth, and Gene is just going on to to the next step in life. May God be with you all.

Dear Marge & Family,
We have many happy memories with Paul & Marge. Those times started back in 1972 when we moved to Canton. The trips we enjoyed together, the picnics at the Manasota beach, cards, cookouts and the fellows with their golf trips & local golf games. Paul had a look alike, Robert Wagner, the movie star. He will be missed so very much but always be remembered as a great friend. Love you both!

Marge and Haley family, we're so sorry for your loss. Gene was always great to visit with and easy to talk too. I remember Gene and Marge welcoming us into their home and staying there for days as a kid.

Gene was always willing to help others. quick story if i may: My dad (Joe) couldn't get Notre Dame tickets and Gene pulled some strings and got Joe 4 tickets to ND vs USC, which ND won 49-19. Dad was so excited. ND went on to become National champs that year 1977.

RIP Gene. you'll be missed.
