Sharon Kessler Obituary

Sharon L. Kessler
Age 57, of Canton, went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday at Aultman Hospital. She was born in Canton, a daughter of Stanley and Elizabeth Popa Fasnacht, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and had been a life resident. Sharon was a 1970 graduate of Perry High School, and a 1974 graduate of Kent State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and where she was a four-year gymnast, and went to the NCAA National Championships. She also received her Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Ashland University. Sharon was a Phys. Ed and Science teacher at Lakewood High School, Sandy Valley High School, and Plain Local Schools, at Pleasant View, Middlebranch, and Glenoak High School. During the last several years, Sharon became an avid and accomplished golfer. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved volunteering her time at Trinity Lutheran Soup Kitchen. She also continuously shared her strength with other cancer survivors as she endured her own battle with cancer.
Surviving besides her parents is her husband, Craig P. Kessler, with whom she celebrated their 36th Wedding Anniversary on June 9; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tiffany Kessler and her fiancé, Josh Grimsley, of Canton, and Trisha and Richard Constantine, of Greenville, S.C.; one brother, Brian Fasnacht, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Louise Kessler, of North Canton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Sue Kessler, of Columbus, and Brad and Margot Kessler, of North Canton; nieces Hillary, Allison, Amanda, and Sarah, and nephew, Amery; also her beloved dog, Shelby, and cat, Lucky.
A PRIVATE SERVICE for her family will be held on Saturday at Sharon's church with Pastor Darla Ann Kratzer officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 5-8 p.m. at the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home. The family wishes to express their appreciation and special thank you to Pastor Darla Ann Kratzer, Dr. Barbara Volk, Dr. Michael Hopkins, Dr. Steven Grossman, Dr. Dina Rooney of Tri-County Oncology, Aultman Palliative Care Unit Nurses, Aultman Memorial Four North Nurses, and Aultman 6th Floor Nurses. They also would like to thank their family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time. Gary and I were so sorry to hear that Sharon had lost her courageous battle. I always looked forward to seeing her at Dr. Rooney's office as we shared "chemo time." Up until that last day we spoke, Sharon always had that lovely smile and courageous attitude. Unfortunately, we were on our way to Seattle when we learned of her death and could not return to town in time to bring our condolences to the family during the visiting hours. Please know that we are heartsick at your loss . . . at all of our loss. Love to the family, Jan and Gary Smith

I did not personally know Mrs Kessler, but spent a lot of time with Tiffany Kessler at Kilmer Middle School in Vienna, Virginia. Tiffany so fondly spoke of her mother, and exemplifies such an amazing personality that is obviously passed down from her family. Your family is in my thoughts as you mourn during this difficult time, knowing Sharon is in a place we all hope to be someday, and what we all prepare for daily. She is in no pain, has no suffering, and is all around her family at all times. Here is a wonderful poem I would like to share:
Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, we still are.

Call me by old familiar names.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used to.
Put no difference in your tone. Wear no air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play. Smile. Think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be the same as it always was; let it be spoken without effort…
without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight?
I am waiting for you somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is past. Nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before – only better.
Sincerely,
Caroline Baker Tuss

Dear Craig, Tif, Trisha and the Kessler Family...
Words cannot express how much Sharon meant to me. She was such an inspiration in so many ways. She was so intimidating but so gentle. I first met her at Middlebranch. She was my 8th grade teacher. Boy, I was afraid of her. Even though she was tough and demanded respect, which she deserved, she had a special way about her. We had a special relationship from the get go. Then I met Sarah and got to know the whole family on a personal level. We have shared many good memories. Your family is so generous, caring and very thoughtful.
You should be so proud of the wonderful accomplishments that Sharon got to be a part of. She loved her family and friends more than we will ever know. I hope that you find peace and comfort knowing that she will always be soaring with the angels above looking down on you and protecting you. No need for sadness she is in a safe, peaceful and wonderful place.
I love you guys so much and if there is anything that I can do... I will. P.S. I will be dedicating This years Relay for Life in memory of Sharon!

October 22, 2009

Craig, Tiffany, and Trisha, Sharon was one of the most beautiful, classiest ladies that I have ever met in my life. Fortunately, I was placed on the 9th grade integrated team with her and Shawn Jackson. She was a wonderful teacher and colleague. Her wisdom and ability to instill values in our students was unsurpassed. I was truly blessed to be on that team. Her strength in her courageous battle with her illness was unbelievable. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
