Rev. Samuel Edward Sayer, 77 of Dickerson Road, Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, Anderson, SC. He was a devoted husband, father, granddaddy and pastor. He was loved dearly and will be missed.

Born on August 17, 1938 in Elberton GA, he was the son of the late Samuel Oscar Sayer and Leona Bagwell Sayer. Rev. Sayer received a Master of Divinity from the Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, TX and was a pastor for over forty years. He served as pastor at the Rock Branch Baptist Church in Elberton for thirty eight years and was a member of the Providence Baptist Church in Anderson. He also was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife: Patsy Ward Sayer; his children: David Sayer and his wife Christine of Hartwell, Denise Beggs and her husband Tim of Elberton, Tony Ward and his wife Dale of Anderson; five grandchildren Lisa Pierce and Scott, Jena Sayer, Nathan Sayer, Emily Beggs, Caleb Beggs; one sister: Frances Skelton and Marion of Cumming and one brother: Earl Sayer and Carol of Royston. Rev. Sayer was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Ruth Conwell Sayer; one brother: James Walton Sayer and one sister: Martha Sayer.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Rock Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Kinard and Rev. Ken Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman, GA. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. The family is at the home.
