Hey bud, I miss hearing that signature voice of yours, that sly smile, our "jive talk". We had such fun times in the newsroom and on assignment together. I'm not sure what brought me to you this morning. I live in the upstate now not far from Anderson. I think I might drop by to visit your resting place - Hope to see you again one day.------- Van the photo man

I didn't have a brother when I was growing up. Greg was the closest thing to that. As I reflect upon Greg's passing, I realize how much our lives mirrored each others. We both had hard working fathers, loving, caring mothers and a wonderful sister. We grew up at a time when there was no internet, cable TV, X-Boxes, etc. Our only entertainment was playing basketball, football and riding bicycles. Those things along with Greg's whimsical sense of humor made an otherwise mundane childhood tolerable. And for that alone, I was truly blessed to be able to call him a friend.

A now-deceased Times and Democrat reporter kept faithful track of those she called "T&D alumni." In more than 30 years as editor of the newspaper, I have had the privilege of working with many talented people, many moving on to further careers in journalism and other fields. Greg Carson was an alum who made the move from reporter to the world of communications/public relations. I often talked with him about the difference in being the questioner and the questioned, making the case that as the former he would likely disagree with the stand he was taking as the latter. He understood. I understood. It goes with the turf. I will miss T&D alumnus Greg Carson, as will his family, the Orangeburg community and many others.

Greg was an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, spirited guy who always had a smile, but was about "taking care of business." This sudden loss has affected many in the Orangeburg community. He will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences are extended to the Carson Family, Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five Family, and the Orangeburg Community.

Greg was a trusted, respected colleague. At the time of his passing, I was working with him on a student-focused video project for the District TV station. We shared the excitement of seeing the project come together. South Carolina's entire media/communications community benefitted from Gregs talents. He was a real trailblazer in our industry.

My heart goes out to Mother, Marsha & Family. I know this was a definite shock to everyone. I have not seen Greg since he was younger but because of the family closeness, it seems like yesterday. I pray for your strength as he is with his father and uncles. God is with you.

My heart aches for both of you in the loss of your son/brother. Greg was a gentlemanly, thoughtful, and kind person. Exactly the kind of man that a family can be proud of. I already miss his enthusiasm, smile, and positive attitude. My prayers are that, as his mother and as Greg's sister, your memories of this remarkable individual will sustain and comfort you in the weeks and months ahead.

We wonder why but God only knows. We were schoolmates and would write passes to get outa class just to walk around campus. Oh those little things make for laughter but Gregs death has left us sad. May all of you allow God to carry you through these days of sorrow.
